Senior Financial Controller / Finance Manager

Multi-Store International E-Commerce | Remote

We are a fast-growing international e-commerce company operating multiple Shopify stores across several countries and processing significant transaction volumes through multiple payment providers.

We are looking for a highly capable Senior Financial Controller / Finance Manager to professionalize and take ownership of our finance function.

This is NOT a junior bookkeeping position.

We already have finance/accounting activities taking place inside the company. We need a senior finance professional who can ensure that our numbers are accurate, our controls are strong and management has reliable financial information for decision-making.

Your Mission

Build a finance function that the founder can trust.

You will assess our current finance processes, identify weaknesses, improve controls and reporting, and oversee the people performing recurring finance work.

Responsibilities

* Own financial reporting and financial accuracy
* Review and improve our current finance processes
* Oversee bookkeeping and accounting workflows
* Review reconciliations across banks and payment processors
* Ensure Shopify/order data reconciles correctly with financial records
* Monitor payment processor settlements and fees
* Review supplier payments and COGS
* Improve expense categorization and controls
* Monitor refunds, chargebacks and payment-related losses
* Produce reliable monthly P&L reporting
* Produce consolidated and store-level management reporting
* Develop cash-flow reporting and forecasting
* Build budgets and forecasts
* Identify unusual financial movements and discrepancies
* Establish appropriate approval and financial control processes
* Review the work of junior finance/accounting team members
* Improve month-end closing procedures
* Work with external accountants, tax advisers and other specialists where required
* Help management understand profitability and financial performance
* Identify opportunities for financial automation and better systems

E-Commerce Complexity

Experience with high-volume e-commerce is strongly preferred.

You should be comfortable reconciling complex transaction flows rather than only traditional invoice-based businesses.

What We Are Looking For

* Strong accounting/finance foundation
* Significant experience in financial control, finance management or senior accounting
* Excellent reconciliation skills
* Strong management reporting ability
* Experience creating or improving financial controls
* Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills
* Experience with accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks
* High attention to detail
* Strong analytical ability
* Ability to investigate discrepancies independently
* Ability to review and challenge the work of others
* Strong written English

CPA/ACCA/CIMA or comparable professional qualifications are highly valued but not automatically required if your experience is exceptional.

What We Are NOT Looking For

This is not suitable for someone whose experience is primarily:

* Data entry
* Basic bookkeeping
* Accounts payable only
* Virtual assistance
* Producing reports without understanding the underlying numbers

We need someone capable of owning and controlling a finance function, not simply processing transactions.

What Success Looks Like

Management can confidently answer:

* How profitable are we?
* Which stores are most profitable?
* What is our real COGS?
* Where is our cash?
* What are our payment processor balances?
* Are all transactions reconciled?
* What are our major financial risks?
* How are actual results performing against forecast?

And most importantly: management can trust the answers.
