Part-Time Ramp-Up to Full-Time | Future Tax Advisor Opportunity
Company: Phaenix Advisory
Compensation: Up to USD $1,000 per month, based on experience
Start date: October or November 2026
Term: Part-Time Oct-December, Full-time through May 2027, with the possibility of becoming a permanent position
Schedule: At least 4–5 working hours of overlap with U.S. Pacific Time
About the role
Phaenix Advisory is seeking an experienced U.S. Tax Accountant to join us initially on a part-time basis beginning in October 2026. From October through December, the successful candidate will learn our business, clients, systems, tax processes, and quality standards. This ramp-up period will include training, reviewing prior-year returns, becoming familiar with our real-estate clients, and working in our technology stack, including ProConnect and TaxDome.
The position will transition to full-time from January through May 2027 for the U.S. tax season. Strong performance may lead to a permanent, long-term position with increasing client responsibility and the opportunity to grow into a tax advisor role.
This is a hands-on tax role for someone who can prepare accurate returns, identify missing or inconsistent information, maintain organized workpapers, and communicate clearly with reviewers and clients. We are looking for more than a data-entry tax preparer: the right person will demonstrate sound judgment, take ownership of their work, and have the potential to grow into a client-facing tax advisor.
What you’ll do
- Prepare U.S. federal and state income tax returns for individuals and businesses.
- Work on tax returns involving rental properties and real-estate investors.
- Review client documents and identify missing, inconsistent, or questionable information.
- Prepare clear, organized workpapers and completion notes.
- Research routine U.S. tax questions and present your findings clearly.
- Respond to review comments accurately and avoid repeating corrected mistakes.
- Communicate professionally with the team and, as the role develops, directly with clients.
- Help improve tax-preparation checklists, templates, and internal workflows.
- Gradually develop the judgment and communication skills needed to support tax planning and advisory work.
Required qualifications
- At least three years of hands-on U.S. tax preparation experience.
- Practical experience preparing tax returns
- Strong understanding of U.S. individual and business taxation.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate work.
- Ability to investigate issues, form a reasonable conclusion, and ask focused questions when review is needed.
- Ability to work full-time with at least 4–5 hours of daily overlap with U.S. Pacific Time.
- Reliable, strong internet connection and a professional remote-work environment.
- Ability to manage deadlines and work independently in a remote setting.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience using Intuit ProConnect Tax & TaxDome
- Experience with Forms 1040, 1065, and 1120-S, including Schedule E, depreciation, and property dispositions.
- Experience communicating directly with U.S. clients.
- Experience supporting tax planning or explaining tax matters in plain English.
- Thoughtful use of approved AI tools for research, drafting, documentation, or workflow improvement.
- Understanding of the need to verify AI-generated work and protect confidential client information.
What success looks like
A successful candidate will produce accurate, well-supported work, raise issues early, and make review easy. Over time, this person should require less supervision, communicate confidently with clients, and develop from a strong tax preparer into a trusted tax advisor.
