READ THIS FIRST
This is a PRODUCT DESIGN role: screens, flows, and interfaces for a live software platform and a mobile app, designed in Figma and handed to an engineer to build. It is NOT a graphic design role. If your portfolio is logos, branding boards, social media graphics, flyers, invitations, or Canva work, please do not apply — those applications will not be read, no matter how beautiful the work is.
If your portfolio shows real software — dashboards, web apps, mobile apps, booking flows — read on. This role was written for you.
SENIOR UI/UX PRODUCT DESIGNER — MAKE A LUXURY FAMILY-CARE PLATFORM THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, EFFORTLESS OF ITS KIND
Project-based full-time (about 6-9 months), then part-time retainer · Work from home · Flexible hours with a few hours' overlap with US Eastern (New York) time
ABOUT US
House of Nannies is a boutique, high-end domestic staffing agency in the New York area, founded by a nanny, serving families across Westchester, Manhattan, Greenwich and Fairfield, Bergen County, and the Hamptons. We run two platforms: our placement service (long-term nanny and newborn-care matching) and Little Minders, our membership babysitting service. Behind both sits the Manor — our internal operations platform where our team runs every family's search. We have a strong brand and a defined design language: warm, editorial, premium. We're looking for the product designer who will carry it through every screen.
THE ROLE
You'll own the UI/UX of our product experience end to end: our internal platform, our family and candidate portals, and our mobile app. You'll redesign existing screens for calm and simplicity, design complete flows with every state (empty, loading, error, success, popups), and hand clean Figma specs to our lead engineer, working a step ahead of him surface by surface. This is a craft-and-ownership role for someone who sweats interface details.
SHAPE OF THE ENGAGEMENT (WE'RE UPFRONT ABOUT THIS)
Full-time for the initial build — roughly 6 to 9 months — then transitioning to an ongoing part-time retainer for polish and new work as we grow. We name this now because we'd rather be honest about the rhythm than surprise you later.
IMPORTANT — ELEVATE, DON'T REINVENT
We are not looking for someone to reinvent our brand. We have a brand bible, a design system, and live screens. Your job is to take what exists to its most beautiful, effortless, premium version. If your instinct is to throw it out and start over, we're not the right fit for each other.
YOU MUST HAVE
- A portfolio of SHIPPED SOFTWARE: web applications, SaaS platforms, or mobile apps that real people use. Landing pages alone do not qualify; print and social graphics do not qualify at all.
- Strong flow and interaction design — you design journeys and states, not just pretty screens.
- Proven ability to work inside an existing brand system and elevate it respectfully.
- Figma fluency and clean developer handoff: components, specs, tokens.
- Clear communication with a non-technical founder — you explain design decisions simply.
NICE TO HAVE
- Marketplaces, booking systems, or membership products.
- A warm, editorial, premium aesthetic sensibility — our brand is soft and human, not techy or cold.
- Motion and micro-interaction sensibility.
HOW WE HIRE
A short PAID trial task — redesign one real screen of our platform, working from our brand brief (we pay a flat fee whether or not we continue) — then a portfolio deep-dive and reference check.
HOW TO APPLY
Start your application with the word ELEVATE, then send exactly three things:
1. A direct link to ONE software screen you personally designed — a dashboard, web app, or mobile app screen you're proudest of. This is the first thing we look at.
2. Your full portfolio link.
3. Your expected monthly salary, and one line: your approach when you inherit an existing brand you love.
Applications that don't start with ELEVATE, or whose strongest link is a logo or social media graphic, will not be read.
