Hours: Approximately 10-15 hours/week, Monday-Friday (Canada time zone required)

We’re a growing Canadian book box subscription company specializing in exclusive special edition books and curated merchandise for readers around the world.

Job Overview:

As our Creative Assistant, you’ll support our Art Director with the research and organization behind our special edition book projects.

Your day-to-day work will include reading books and manuscripts for research, preparing artist briefs, researching and sourcing illustrators, and helping organize artwork and project information.

This role is ideal for someone who loves romance books, is highly organized and detail-oriented, has a good eye for visual style, and enjoys research and creative work behind the scenes.

Responsibilities:

1. Read books and manuscripts for research purposes (pulling information about specific scenes, characters, settings, descriptions, objects, etc.)
2. Prepare detailed creative briefs for artists using our template
3. Support the Art Director with artwork planning and coordination
4. Research, source, and book illustrators and designers aligned with each project

Who We’re Looking For:

- Creative and visually minded with a genuine interest in romance books, publishing, and special edition design
- A clear communicator who can summarize information concisely
- Strong attention to detail and able to catch inconsistencies or missing information
- Able to work independently and consistently meet deadlines
- Comfortable taking direction and asking questions when something is unclear
- Has a good eye for visual style and enjoys creative work
- Comfortable working remotely with reliable internet access

Skills and Experiences:

- Genuine interest in the romance genre, including familiarity with tropes, characters, and visual aesthetics
- Strong written English and ability to summarize scenes, characters, settings, and other book details accurately
- Strong research and information-gathering skills, with excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable researching artists and illustrators online and evaluating portfolios for potential fit
- Experience using Google Docs, Google Sheets, Basecamp, or similar organizational tools
- Previous experience in publishing, creative work, research, virtual assistance, or a related field is an asset
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a bonus, but not required
- Basic understanding of design, illustration, or publishing is a bonus
- Willingness to learn about book illustration, cover design, and print production
