Practical Test
For the strongest 2–3 candidates, give them a paid practical test.
Example:
Give the candidate access to a demo/limited Klaviyo account and ask them to audit the existing setup.
Ask them to:
Identify the biggest problems in the current Klaviyo setup
Identify missing flows
Build or improve one flow
Create the flow logic and conditional splits
Create 2–3
Explain their segmentation strategy
Explain why they chose each trigger, filter, and split
Provide 3 recommendations to increase
This will reveal far more than asking someone whether they “know Klaviyo.”
Bonus Tips — Internal
Don't hire someone just because they know how to use Klaviyo.
A mediocre Klaviyo operator can build 10 flows that generate almost nothing.
The person you want understands customer psychology, offers, copywriting, segmentation, data, and lifecycle marketing.
During the interview, open their previous work and ask:
Why did you build this flow this way?
Why did you choose this trigger?
Why did you use this segment?
