About LDG
LDG is an Australian interior architecture and design studio working across hospitality, food and beverage, shops, retail, automotive, commercial and branded environments.
We are looking for an experienced Interior Designer / Architect to work with us on a long-term basis.
This is a hands-on design and documentation role for someone who can take a project from early design thinking through SketchUp 3D development, detailed design and AutoCAD documentation.
The role
You will work closely with our Design Director across hospitality, retail, automotive and commercial projects.
Your work will include:
Concept design
Space planning
Developing design options from sketches, references and verbal direction
3D design development in SketchUp
Building and refining detailed SketchUp models
AutoCAD documentation
Preparing coordinated drawing packages
Plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections and details
Joinery and detailed interior documentation
Materials and finishes selection
Lighting and furniture selection
Preparing client presentation material
Design development
Consultant coordination
Reviewing and incorporating mark-ups
Developing concepts into coordinated, buildable design packages
Reviewing and refining design details as projects progress
You may be given a floor plan, photographs, reference imagery, sketches and a discussion about what we are trying to achieve.
We are looking for someone who can understand that direction, develop the design in SketchUp 3D, and translate the approved design into clear, accurate AutoCAD documentation.
What we are looking for
Ideally you will have 5–10+ years of professional interior design or architectural experience and a strong portfolio demonstrating both design capability and technical documentation.
Experience in hospitality, restaurants, hotels, shops, retail, automotive showrooms and commercial interiors will be highly regarded.
You should have:
Strong interior design and spatial planning ability
Strong 3D design capability in SketchUp
Strong AutoCAD documentation skills
Experience producing complete interior documentation packages
Experience preparing plans, elevations, sections and detailed joinery drawings
Good design judgement and a strong eye for proportion, material and detail
Good knowledge of materials, finishes, lighting, furniture and joinery
Experience developing concepts into resolved and buildable interiors
Strong attention to drawing accuracy, dimensions, annotations and detailing
Good problem-solving ability
Confidence working independently once the overall design direction is established
Strong written and spoken English
Confidence discussing and developing ideas through Teams meetings and live screen-sharing
Software
Strong proficiency in both SketchUp AND AutoCAD is essential.
You must be highly competent in:
SketchUp — 3D modelling and design development
AutoCAD — detailed interior documentation
Experience with the following is also highly regarded:
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Photoshop
Enscape, Twinmotion or similar visualisation software
Revit
Relevant experience
Previous experience in any of the following will be particularly valuable:
Restaurants and bars
Food and beverage venues
Hospitality interiors
Shops and retail environments
Automotive showrooms and customer environments
Hotels
Branded environments
Commercial interiors
Detailed joinery documentation
Construction documentation
Working with Australian, UK, US or other international design studios
The practicalities
This is a long-term remote role working directly with LDG.
The initial commitment is approximately 30 hours per week, with a salary of US$1,300 per month.
Hours may increase over time for the right person as the role develops.
You will need regular overlap with Australian business hours for Teams calls, design reviews and screen-sharing, but we do not expect you to work Australian hours for your entire day.
You may work from home or from a co-working space. For the right person, we would consider contributing towards a suitable co-working arrangement.
We provide access to AutoCAD, Adobe and Dropbox through our licences for the projects you work on.
We have worked with offshore team members for many years and value long-term working relationships.
To apply
Please submit:
1. Your portfolio
Best work first. We would rather see a smaller number of strong, relevant projects than everything you have ever worked on.
2. Your resume / CV
Your resume must include your employment history and a list of relevant projects you have personally worked on.
For each project, please include:
Project name
Location
Project type
Completion date / year
Your role on the project
The stages you personally worked on
What you personally designed, modelled or documented
Software used
We are specifically looking to understand what you personally did on each project, not simply the company you worked for or a generic job description.
3. One page
Choose one hospitality, retail or automotive project that you personally took beyond concept. Tell us:
What the project was
One design decision you made yourself and why
One thing you would do differently if you were doing the project again
Applications without a portfolio and project-based resume will not be considered.
