About Us
We are a fast-growing fractional CFO and financial advisory firm that provides high-level financial strategy and controller services to sizable businesses. We are currently expanding our team and looking for a highly skilled Construction Accountant to take the lead on a large, Texas-based construction client, while also managing construction files for our broader client base.
The Role
We are looking for a specialist who deeply understands the complexities of construction accounting and is highly adaptable when it comes to technology. Our newest construction client is currently working in Sage and transitioning to Viewpoint Spectrum. However, several of our other construction clients operate entirely within QuickBooks Online (QBO). You will be responsible for cleaning up historical books, establishing solid job-costing workflows, managing WIP schedules, and navigating these multiple accounting platforms fluidly.
Working Hours & Availability (Strict Requirement)
You must be available to work during standard US business hours (Eastern or Pacific Time) every day, Monday through Friday.
Once you are fully trained and integrated into our workflows, we can offer some schedule flexibility, but your core working hours must always maintain a significant overlap with US business hours to ensure smooth communication with our team and clients.
Key Responsibilities
System Agility & Cleanup: Untangle messy books and manage construction files seamlessly across QBO, Sage, and Spectrum.
Job Costing: Accurately track and allocate direct and indirect costs to specific jobs and projects across all platforms.
WIP Management: Prepare, manage, and reconcile monthly Work in Progress (WIP) schedules and over/under billing calculations.
AIA Billing & Retainage: Process complex progress billings (AIA formats) and accurately track Accounts Receivable retainage.
Month-End Close: Execute a rigorous month-end close process, preparing the balance sheet and profit & loss statements for CFO review.
General Ledger: Manage full-cycle accounting, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and payroll journal entries.
Requirements
Construction Expertise: 3+ years of dedicated experience in construction accounting (this is non-negotiable).
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, and retainage.
Software: You must be highly comfortable working in QuickBooks Online (QBO) specifically for construction clients. Experience with Sage (100 Contractor / 300 CRE) and Viewpoint Spectrum is highly preferred.
Problem Solver: Proven ability to step into a messy file, identify discrepancies, and systematically clean them up without needing to be micromanaged.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter.
Your subject line must include "Construction Bookkeeping Pro" or it will be automatically deleted.
In your cover letter, please briefly explain your experience managing WIP schedules, confirm your availability to work US hours, and mention which construction accounting software platforms you are most comfortable using. (Applications without this will not be considered).
