Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Internal Accountant to support the financial and operational functions of our organization. This role is responsible for mortgage loan quality control (QC), payroll processing and calculations, QuickBooks account reconciliations, and a variety of accounting and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to manage competing priorities, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where occasional same-day payroll requests are required.
Key Responsibilities
Mortgage Loan Quality Control (QC)
• Perform quality control reviews of mortgage loan files to ensure compliance with company policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
• Verify the accuracy and completeness of loan documentation.
• Identify discrepancies, document findings, and communicate issues to management.
• Track QC findings and assist with corrective action processes.
• Maintain accurate records of QC reviews and audit documentation.
Payroll Administration
• Calculate and process employee payroll accurately and on schedule.
• Handle payroll adjustments, commissions, bonuses, and deductions.
• Respond to urgent payroll requests, including occasional same-day processing when necessary.
• Ensure payroll compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Maintain payroll records and assist with payroll reporting.
Accounting & QuickBooks
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank and account reconciliations using QuickBooks.
• Record journal entries and maintain accurate financial records.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Support preparation of financial reports and management reporting.
Additional Responsibilities
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
• Maintain organized financial files and documentation.
• Support internal audits and compliance initiatives.
• Complete miscellaneous accounting, administrative, and operational projects as assigned.
• Collaborate with management to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
Qualifications
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience (mortgage industry experience preferred).
• Experience with QuickBooks required.
• Knowledge of payroll processing and payroll regulations.
• Familiarity with mortgage loan documentation and quality control processes is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
• High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Skills
• Experience working in the mortgage or financial services industry.
• Understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).
• Ability to work independently while also contributing as a team member.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage time effectively.
