Hi!
I’m looking for a motion designer / illustrator to create a recognizable visual identity for a new faceless science YouTube channel.
About the channel
The channel creates calm, long-form science documentaries exploring how the brain shapes everyday experiences like perception, memory, dreams, time, and our sense of self. Each video challenges something we intuitively believe to be true using neuroscience, cognitive science, and philosophy. The tone is existential, mysterious, and slightly unsettling, while remaining scientifically rigorous.
What I need
1. Two recurring characters
I want 2 original characters that can become the recognizable “faces” of the channel and appear repeatedly throughout our videos.
2. 2–3 full-screen scenes/environments
The characters should appear in 2–3 different full-screen environments, with a green-screen display naturally incorporated into each scene. During editing, we will replace this area with stock footage etc.
3. Animated scenes
The scenes should not be completely static. Both the character and elements in the environment should have subtle movement.
For example: the character moving slightly, a hanging lamp gently swinging, screens flickering, lights blinking, objects moving, or other environmental details that make the scene feel alive.
How you create the animation is up to you. AI animation, 2D animation, 3D animation, or a combination of techniques are all welcome.
The goal is to have scenes that can play for longer periods throughout our videos without feeling like a static image.
4. Reusable elements
A few standalone visual elements/assets from the same visual world that we can repeatedly use and animate throughout our videos.

These are examples of the general concept of recurring characters/scenes within videos:

Important: We do NOT want to copy these examples. They are only references to help explain the format. I’m looking for an original visual identity and original characters for our channel.
Application
- Please include a quick sketch or visual concept of what you imagine for this channel when applying.
- It does not need to be polished or finished. I mainly want to understand your creative direction and what kind of characters/world you envision.
- Applicants who send a concept/sketch with their application will be given priority.
Please don't only send a generic portfolio/application.
Budget: $25
