JOB OVERVIEW

About the Role

We are building an in-house finance function with an offshore team based in the Philippines and
are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the finance function remotely. This is a
pivotal role responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, reporting, budgeting,
cashflow, and strategic financial analysis, as well as directly managing the company Bookkeeper.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Directors in Sydney to drive financial
performance and support business growth, with hours aligned to Australian Eastern Time. This is
a hands-on role ideal for someone with strong Xero skills, solid accounting fundamentals, and
experience in Australian businesses operating globally.

Key Responsibilities
Team Management
• Directly manage and mentor the in-house Bookkeeper, providing day-to-day guidance and
oversight
• Review and approve work prepared by the Bookkeeper including reconciliations, payroll, AP
batches, and Cin7 Omni updates
• Set priorities, manage workload, and ensure all finance team deadlines are consistently met
• Support the onboarding and ongoing development of the Bookkeeper
Financial Reporting & Analysis
• Prepare and deliver monthly management accounts including qualitative commentary and
analysis
• Manage and maintain the Fathom reporting platform showing variances between actual
results versus budget and last year and produce insightful financial dashboards
• Conduct balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis, including but not limited to,
PayPal, Shopify, Stripe and Afterpay clearing and receivable accounts and Cin-7 detailed
inventory ledger with inventory control account in Xero.
• Oversee quality control between the inventory system and the accounting system
• Liaise with external accountants for year-end compliance and tax return preparation

Budgeting & Forecasting
• Prepare the annual budget (simple version) based on prior year actuals with applied growth
rates
• Monitor, maintain, and roll forward the budget on a quarterly basis, replacing completed
months’ results with actual results
• Analyse variances between actual results and budget, and provide insights and
recommendations
• Prepare and manage the operational cashflow, aligning cash inflows and forecast outflows
Accounts Payable & Payroll Oversight
• Oversee accounts payable processes including bill entry, aged payables reporting, and
batch payment preparation (ABA files)
• Manage the AP system (e.g. Hubdoc, Lightyear) and ensure data integrity
• Prepare and approve fortnightly payroll processing and superannuation obligations
• Manage STP (Single Touch Payroll) fortnightly lodgements and year-end finalisation
• Coordinate annual Workers Compensation renewal and annual wages declaration
Systems & Compliance
• Manage Xero including integrations with all bank accounts, Cin7 Omni and payment
gateway systems
• Oversee syncing between Cin7 Omni and Xero regularly to identify any errors and resolve
discrepancies promptly
• Ensure compliance with GST, BAS, IAS, Payroll tax and other statutory obligations (in
coordination with external tax agent)
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation
Key Requirements
• CPA or CA qualified (or working towards)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Financial Controller or senior accounting role
• Experience supporting Australian businesses (understanding of GST, BAS, STP, and
superannuation obligations)
• Strong Xero experience is essential - Xero certification highly regarded
• Proficiency with reporting tools such as Fathom with the ability to build and modify financial
reports, as required
• Demonstrated experience working with consumer products and e-commerce businesses is
essential
• Demonstrated experience working within a global business with foreign currency reporting
and FX transactions as well as the ability to consolidate results of multiple entities
• Hands-on experience with inventory management systems; experience with Cin7 Omni is
highly desirable
• Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and STP obligations
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
• Reliable internet connection and a suitable home office setup
• High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities independently
• Prior experience in effectively managing and overseeing performance of all direct reports
