Read this part first
Most SEO job posts want someone to run audits and send reports. We don't.
We want the person who can look at a law firm's search footprint and say "here's why your competitor is showing up in ChatGPT's answer and you're not — and here's exactly what we're going to do about it in the next 60 days."
If that sentence made you sit up, keep reading. If it made you nervous, this isn't your role.
We're Foster Consulting. We build and run marketing for law firms — and only law firms. Legal is one of the most competitive verticals in search, which means the work is hard, the wins are real, and nobody here has to pretend that ranking for "personal injury lawyer" is easy.
We're hiring an SEO & AEO Strategist to be the subject-matter expert behind a portfolio of client accounts. Not a task-taker. The person everyone else asks.
What you'll actually own
Traditional SEO, end to end
You'll run keyword and topical research tied to each firm's practice areas and local market. Full technical audits — crawlability, indexation, site architecture, Core Web Vitals — and then you'll own the fixes through to completion. We don't want the report. We want the problem gone.
You'll handle on-page optimization, internal linking, local SEO (Google Business Profile, local pack, citations), and link acquisition strategy.
AEO — this is the part that matters most
Search is splitting in two, and most agencies are pretending it isn't. You'll be our expert on Answer Engine Optimization: structured data and schema, entity optimization, and content built to be extracted and cited by AI.
You'll track our clients' visibility, citations, and mentions across AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT, and Perplexity — and build the strategies that grow them. When an algorithm shifts or a new answer engine appears, you'll be the one who reads it, tests it, and turns it into a playbook the whole team can run.
Very few people are genuinely good at this yet. That's the opportunity.
Site migrations onto DSS
DSS is our proprietary platform, and we move client sites onto it. You'll handle pre-migration benchmarking, URL mapping, 301 redirect strategy, post-launch validation — and protect rankings and traffic through every launch. Nothing gets dropped on your watch.
Advising the team
Marketing Strategists own the client relationships. You're the specialist behind them. You'll flag risks and opportunities before anyone asks, recommend strategy changes with clear reasoning and expected business impact, and join client calls when technical expertise needs to be explained in plain, confidence-building English.
Our clients are highly educated attorneys. They will ask sharp questions. You need to answer them without hiding behind jargon.
Reporting that says something
GA4, Google Search Console, rank tracking, and Looker Studio dashboards you build and maintain. Numbers plus insight plus what we should do next. Charts alone don't count.
How we'll measure it
Organic visibility, traffic, and qualified lead growth across your accounts
AI answer-engine citation and mention share for your clients
95%+ retention of pre-migration organic traffic within 90 days of a DSS launch
Work orders delivered on time, reporting delivered on schedule, every cycle
Clear targets. No moving goalposts.
What you need to bring
Required:
3+ years hands-on SEO/AEO experience — ideally agency-side, juggling multiple client accounts at once
Real, demonstrable results growing organic visibility and traffic (be ready to walk us through them)
Working knowledge of AEO/GEO tactics and structured data (
Site migration experience: URL mapping, redirect strategy, the works
Proficiency with GA4, Google Search Console, Ahrefs or Semrush, and a crawler like Screaming Frog
Solid HTML and CSS, plus enough JavaScript awareness to diagnose problems
Excellent written and spoken English — you'll be presenting to U.S. attorneys
Reliable overlap with U.S. Eastern business hours
Self-directed. Deadline-driven. Good at prioritizing when three clients all want something today.
Nice to have:
Experience marketing law firms or other professional services
Comfort with proprietary or closed CMS platforms (we'll train you on DSS)
Local SEO wins in competitive metro markets
The terms — straight, no surprises
Independent contractor, not an employee. You handle your own taxes, equipment, and workspace.
40 hours per week, with at least 4 hours of daily overlap with U.S. Eastern Time
9–13 USD/hour, based on experience — reviewed as you grow with us
Invoiced and paid monthly
A signed NDA and data-handling agreement are required — some of our clients operate in regulated industries
90-day evaluation period, with the clear intent of a long-term engagement. We're not looking for a quick project. We're looking for someone who's still here in three years.
How to apply
We read every application, and we screen hard. Follow these instructions exactly — it's the first test.
Subject line: AEO 2026 — [Your Name]
In your application, answer these four questions. Keep it tight:
Walk us through one SEO result you're proud of. What was the situation, what did you do, and what actually changed? Numbers please.
A client's traffic is flat but they've started appearing in AI Overviews. How do you explain that to them, and what do you do next?
What's the single biggest change you've made to how you work because of AI search? Be specific.
What are your working hours in U.S. Eastern Time?
Attach your CV and links to any sites or dashboards you can share.
Applications that skip the questions or lead with a generic cover letter get archived. Applications that show us how you think get a call.
We move fast. Let's go.
