We are seeking a highly experienced Accounting Team Leader to lead our Philippines-based accounting team supporting a fast-growing Australian accounting firm.
This is a senior leadership position—not simply a production accounting role. The successful candidate will take ownership of team performance, workflow, quality control, technical development and the timely delivery of Australian accounting and tax work.
Mandatory requirements:
• 10+ years’ experience working in Australian public practice accounting
• At least 3 years’ experience leading, supervising or reviewing an offshore accounting team
• Strong technical knowledge of Australian financial statements, income tax returns, BAS, GST, Division 7A, CGT, trusts, companies and individual taxation
• Demonstrated ability to review and finalise work to a high standard before submission to Australian managers
• Experience with Xero and Australian tax and practice-management software
• Excellent written and spoken English
• Strong leadership, communication and workflow-management skills
Key responsibilities:
• Lead and manage the day-to-day performance of the overseas accounting team
• Allocate work and manage team capacity, priorities and deadlines
• Conduct first-level technical reviews of financial statements, tax returns and BAS
• Ensure work is accurate, complete and review-ready
• Train, coach and develop junior and intermediate accountants
• Monitor productivity, turnaround times, WIP, review points and rework
• Run regular team meetings and individual performance discussions
• Identify and escalate technical or workflow issues early
• Improve accounting processes, templates, checklists and quality controls
• Assist with recruiting and onboarding additional offshore team members
• Report regularly to the firm’s Australian leadership team
Success in this role will be measured by:
• Work delivered accurately and on time
• Reduced review points and rework
• Improved team productivity and utilisation
• Strong workflow visibility and deadline management
• Successful development and retention of team members
• Increased capacity for the Australian accounting team
The ideal candidate is commercially minded, technically strong, highly organised and comfortable holding team members accountable. They must be able to operate independently while maintaining clear communication with the Australian leadership team.
There is a genuine opportunity for the successful candidate to progress into an Overseas Accounting Manager or Head of Offshore Operations position as the team grows.
