Full-Time | Remote | Philippines
Spiritus is an international Catholic sacred-music organization bringing together music, art, faith, ecology, and cultural heritage. Our projects involve musicians, artists, writers, churches, cathedrals, schools, cultural institutions, and environmental organizations around the world.
Spiritus is entering a major period of growth, with new performances, recordings, publications, international collaborations, and ecological initiatives now in development.
We are looking for an exceptionally organized and detail-oriented Project Manager – Publications & Creative Projects to join our team in the Philippines.
This is an unusual role combining project management, editorial and publication work, document preparation, research, recruitment, and creative production.
It would be particularly well suited to someone with experience in publishing, editorial design, graphic design, communications, document production, or creative project management who is ready to take on broader responsibility.
The right person will have the opportunity to gradually take ownership of major Spiritus projects and grow into a larger leadership role within the organization.
What You’ll Work On
One of your first major projects will be helping manage the production of a beautiful approximately 200-page commemorative art book documenting a sacred-music recording project in France.
The book will combine extensive photography, essays and spiritual reflections, musical analysis, texts and translations, captions, credits, and other materials. We intend it to have the quality and visual sophistication of a book published by a major museum, gallery, or cultural institution.
You will help manage the assembly of the book from beginning to end, including:
Organizing hundreds of photographs and other visual assets
Collecting and tracking essays, texts, translations, captions, credits, and other materials
Coordinating with writers, editors, designers, translators, photographers, and other contributors
Preparing, formatting, and proofreading documents
Maintaining detailed records of what has been received, what is missing, what requires revision, and what still needs approval
Working closely with the book designer to make sure every element is complete and correct
Helping manage revisions and final preparation for publication
Maintaining organized project files, trackers, and documentation
You do not need to be a professional book designer. We expect to hire a specialist designer for the major art book. Your role will be to help organize and manage the large amount of material that goes into the publication, work closely with the designer, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.
Other Spiritus Projects
You will also assist with a wide range of other Spiritus projects, including:
Preparing materials for CDs and CD booklets and coordinating with manufacturers
Organizing text, photography, credits, metadata, and other publication materials
Creating and editing polished documents and presentation materials
Helping manage an international project collecting nature photography, video, and sound recordings
Overseeing and guiding ongoing searches for project submissions
Conducting detailed online research and outreach
Researching cultural institutions, publications, universities, organizations, and potential collaborators
Running recruitment searches for specialized creative professionals
Managing job postings and applicant pipelines
Screening applicants and reviewing resumes and portfolios
Researching promising candidates and preparing strong shortlists
Helping coordinate other Spiritus projects as the organization continues to grow
As you gain experience with Spiritus, you may gradually take greater ownership of projects, coordinate other team members, and independently manage larger areas of work.
Who We’re Looking For
Above all, we need someone who is extremely organized, meticulous, resourceful, reliable, and capable of taking ownership.
Strong candidates may come from backgrounds such as:
Publishing or editorial production
Book, magazine, or publication design
Graphic or document design
Communications
Creative project management
Arts or cultural organizations
Media production
Editorial operations
You should have:
Exceptional attention to detail
Excellent written English
Strong organizational and project-management ability
Good visual judgment and typography/layout instincts
Experience preparing sophisticated documents or publications
Strong skills with Adobe InDesign and/or other professional design and document-production software
Strong proofreading and editorial skills
The ability to organize large quantities of text, images, files, and information
Strong research skills and confidence finding people and information online
The ability to manage many small details without losing sight of the larger project
The ability to communicate clearly with writers, designers, vendors, applicants, and other collaborators
Strong follow-through and reliability
The initiative to identify and solve problems independently rather than simply waiting for instructions
Experience with books, publications, museums, cultural institutions, music, photography, visual arts, or international creative projects is especially welcome.
The Kind of Person Who Will Succeed Here
You are probably a good fit if you are the person who notices when:
A caption or credit is missing
A filename is inconsistent
A photograph has not yet been approved
A contributor still owes us a document
Two versions of a file are being confused
Something in a layout does not look right
A deadline is approaching and someone needs to follow up
A project would work better if there were a clearer system behind it
You should enjoy bringing order to complex creative projects and taking something with hundreds of moving pieces and helping turn it into a beautiful, finished result.
About Spiritus
Spiritus creates ambitious sacred-music and cultural projects with an international scope.
Our work brings together music, Catholic faith, beauty, ecology, culture, and the natural world, often in collaboration with churches, cathedrals, musicians, artists, scholars, educators, cultural organizations, and environmental groups.
Current projects involve participants and collaborators across the United States, Europe, Africa, Asia, and elsewhere.
We are a small and growing organization, so this is not a narrowly defined corporate position. The right person will have the opportunity to become deeply involved in our projects, take increasing responsibility, and grow with the organization.
