My name is Ian Stanley I’m a professional stand-up comedian looking for someone to help me turn my stand-up, podcasts, and other long-form content into short-form videos for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
But there’s one requirement that matters more to me than anything else:
**You need to genuinely love stand-up comedy.**
I don’t mean you’ve watched a few Netflix specials.
I’m looking for someone who consumes American/English stand-up comedy in their free time. You should have favorite comedians. You should watch comedy clips online. You should understand why one joke is funny and another isn't.
Stand-up is incredibly nuanced, so you also need an excellent grasp of English. You need to understand sarcasm, timing, wordplay, cultural references, double meanings, and the little details that make comedy work.
If you don't genuinely love stand-up comedy, please don't apply.
What You'll Be Doing
Your primary job will be taking my existing content and finding the best moments to turn into short-form social media clips.
You'll work with:
* Stand-up comedy footage
* Podcasts
* Longer videos
* Other comedy content
You'll turn that footage into entertaining short-form videos designed for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.
You'll also be responsible for posting and testing content across these platforms.
On Instagram specifically, I want to aggressively use Trial Reels to test content. Our goal will be to post **at least 10 Trial Reels per day**, learn what works, and then do more of it.
This is not a job where I want to hand you five timestamps every morning and tell you exactly what to edit.
Initially, I'll give you plenty of direction.
But eventually, I want you to know my comedy well enough that you can watch an hour of footage and think:
"That's the clip."
I Want Someone Obsessed With Growth
I'm not interested in posting content just so we can say we posted content.
**I want views. I want followers.**
I want someone who gets excited when a video takes off.
I want you looking at the analytics and asking:
Why did this one get 800,000 views?
Why did this one get 8,000?
Was it the hook?
The joke?
The edit?
The caption?
The length?
The first two seconds?
What happens if we package the same joke differently?
I want us constantly testing, learning, and improving.
Your goal isn't simply to edit videos.
**Your goal is to help grow my audience.**
And I want to financially reward you for doing that.
In addition to your normal pay, I'll create a bonus structure based on the number of views our content generates each month.
If we win, you should win too.
## Who I'm Looking For
You might be a great fit if:
* You genuinely love American stand-up comedy
* You regularly watch comedians and comedy clips in your free time
* Your English comprehension is excellent
* You understand sarcasm, irony, timing, wordplay, and American cultural references
* You have experience editing short-form vertical video
* You understand Instagram Reels, Trial Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts
* You understand hooks, pacing, captions, retention, and short-form storytelling
* You're comfortable posting a high volume of content
* You're interested in analytics and figuring out WHY content performs
* You're proactive and don't need every decision made for you
* You want to get ridiculously good at growing social media accounts
Hours
We'll initially start at approximately **4 hours per day / 20 hours per week**.
Think of the first 30 days as a paid trial for both of us.
If you're great at this and we're getting results, I'm very open to turning this into a full-time position.
I'm looking for someone who could potentially work with me for years, not someone looking for a random short-term editing project.
How To Apply
Please answer these questions:
1. Who are your 5 favorite stand-up comedians?
2. What's your favorite stand-up special you've watched in the last year?
3. Send me links to 3 short-form videos you've personally edited.
4. If I gave you a 60-minute stand-up set, how would you decide which moments should become clips?
5. Tell me about a short-form video you've edited that performed well. How many views did it get, and why do you think it worked?
6. What editing software do you use?
7. What's your current availability?
**IMPORTANT:** Start your application by telling me the funniest stand-up comedian you've ever seen live or online and why you like them.
If you don't answer that question, I won't read the rest of the application.
