Creative Experience Brand | Project With Ongoing Work
Please read the entire post before applying. Generic applications will not be considered.
ABOUT PRESENT WONDERS
Present Wonders creates guided, playful painting experiences for private groups, families, celebrations, retreats, and workplace teams.
It is not an art class. Painting is the medium for an experience built around play, connection, surprise, and discovering that you are more creative than you thought.
The workshops are based in Santa Monica, California.
THE PROJECT
I have an existing Squarespace website, marketing collateral, workshop photographs, testimonials, and developing copy.
I am looking for someone who can review everything with fresh eyes and help me d
• Who the website is speaking to
• What visitors need to understand immediately
• How the workshops should be organized and presented
• What content should remain, change, move, or disappear
• How to turn visitor interest into inquiries and bookings
• How the website and marketing materials should look and feel as one brand
This may be a substantial update or a redesign within my existing Squarespace site. I do not want to move to WordPress, Wix, Webflow, or another platform.
This is not a one-time “make it pretty” assignment. I want to develop an ongoing relationship with someone who can refine the site as I get better photography, video, testimonials, offers, and language.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Audit my existing Squarespace website
• Review my current flyers, one-sheets, photographs, testimonials, and copy
• Identify problems with positioning, navigation, messaging, visual hierarchy, and calls to action
• Recommend a clearer website structure
• Help refine and edit the copy
• Design or redesign pages directly in Squarespace
• Create a strong visual system for typography, color, spacing, buttons, imagery, and page layouts
• Make the site work well on desktop, tablet, and mobile
• Build clear paths for different audiences without making the site confusing
• Improve inquiry, booking, and contact calls to action
• Prepare the site to accept stronger photography and video as those assets become available
• Make periodic updates after the initial project
The initial audiences may include:
• Private celebrations and birthdays
• Brides and bachelorette groups
• Families and adult family groups
• Workplace and leadership teams
• Retreat and community organizers
Part of your job will be helping determine which audiences belong together and which require separate pages or messages.
THE PERSON I AM LOOKING FOR
You must have:
• Strong, current Squarespace experience, including Fluid Engine
• A portfolio of Squarespace websites you personally designed and built
• Strong visual taste and command of typography, spacing, imagery, and hierarchy
• Experience with service businesses, experience brands, consultants, workshops, retreats, hospitality, events, or personal brands
• The ability to make a service understandable and desirable
• Strong English writing and editing skills
• An understanding of conversion-focused website design
• The ability to explain your design and content choices
• Comfort working iteratively as the brand, copy, and visual assets improve
• Good judgment about when AI helps and when human taste must take over
You may use AI for research, ideation, wireframes, copy exploration, image concepts, or workflow support. The finished website must feel original, intentional, and human—not like an AI-generated template.
THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT PROJECT IF
• You mainly install and modify templates
• Your portfolio is attractive but the websites do not clearly sell anything
• You need finished copy and a complete brand guide before beginning
• You specialize in e-commerce product stores rather than service businesses
• You design in Figma but cannot implement the work accurately in Squarespace
• Your writing relies heavily on generic marketing language
• You recommend changing platforms instead of working within Squarespace
• You cannot show live websites that you personally built
HOW TO APPLY
Use this application title:
PRESENT WONDERS WEBSITE — [YOUR FIRST NAME]
Begin your application with:
“Painting is the medium, but the experience is the product.”
Then provide all of the following:
1. LINKS TO THREE LIVE SQUARESPACE WEBSITES
These must be websites you personally designed and built.
For each website, explain:
• What the business sells
• What you personally did
• Whether you created or edited the copy
• Whether you began with a template, redesigned an existing site, or built it from the ground up
• What business problem the redesign was intended to solve
• Whether the client can confirm your involvement
Please identify which Squarespace version or editor was used.
2. ONE SERVICE-BUSINESS CASE STUDY
Show one example of a website that had to sell an experience, expertise, or service rather than a physical product.
Explain:
• What was unclear before
• What you changed
• How you organized the information
• How you d
• What action you wanted visitors to take
• Any measurable improvement in inquiries, bookings, calls, or conversions
Before-and-after screenshots are strongly preferred.
3. SHORT VIDEO REVIEW
Record a three- to five-minute Loom video reviewing my current website:
Please address only these questions:
• What do you believe Present Wonders is selling?
• What is the biggest point of confusion?
• What is the first thing you would change?
• Which existing element should be preserved?
• What information do you need from me before recommending a redesign?
Do not provide a complete redesign or create free sample pages.
4. WRITING SAMPLE
Choose one heading or paragraph from my current website. Show:
• The original wording
• Your edited version
• A brief explanation of why you changed it
5. WORKING RELATIONSHIP
Tell me:
• Your hourly rate and typical project rate
• Your current availability
• Your estimated timeframe for an initial audit and redesign
• How you manage feedback and revisions
• Whether you personally do all design, writing, and Squarespace work
• Which work, if any, you subcontract
• What AI tools you use and how you use them
• Your preferred process for ongoing website updates
Applications missing any requested item will not be considered.
HIRING PROCESS
1. Portfolio and application review
2. Short video interview
3. Paid website and marketing-material audit
4. Agreement on redesign scope, timeline, and price
5. Initial design phase
6. Squarespace build and mobile review
7. Ongoing updates as new content becomes available
This is initially a project-based position with the potential for a long-term working relationship. I am looking for judgment, taste, clarity, and Squarespace ability—not the lowest price.
