California Workers’ Compensation Defense Legal Assistant / Paralegal

Full-Time | Long-Term | Remote | Philippines-Based

We are a growing California workers’ compensation defense law firm seeking an experienced, highly organized, proactive Legal Assistant / Paralegal to join our team on a long-term basis.

This is not an entry-level legal assistant position. Prior California workers’ compensation experience is required and will be given priority.

We are looking for someone who already understands the basic lifecycle of a California workers’ compensation case and can quickly become a reliable part of our case-management team.

Ideal Candidate

You may be a strong fit if you have prior experience working for a:

* California workers’ compensation defense firm
* California workers’ compensation applicant firm
* U.S.-based workers’ compensation law firm
* California insurance defense firm handling WC matters
* TPA, carrier, or legal support company handling California WC claims

Experience with MerusCase is a major plus.

* QME / PQME / AME process

* Medical record review

Responsibilities

Depending on your experience, responsibilities may include:

* Reviewing new case files and organizing case materials
* Identifying missing records, reports, pleadings, and information
* Reviewing medical records and preparing organized medical chronologies
* Reviewing incoming correspondence and identifying required follow-up
* Monitoring case activity and helping ensure files do not become stagnant
* Preparing case summaries and status updates for attorney review
* Calendaring hearings, depositions, QME examinations, deadlines, and follow-up dates
* Requesting and following up on medical records, subpoenaed records, and outstanding reports
* Preparing routine correspondence
* Assisting attorneys with preparation for depositions, hearings, and QME evaluations
* Reviewing WCAB/EAMS information
* Uploading and organizing documents in the case-management system
* Maintaining accurate task lists and follow-up systems
* Helping attorneys keep cases moving toward resolution
* Performing other California workers’ compensation case-management tasks as assigned

Schedule

This is intended to be a full-time, long-term position.

You must have reliable internet access, a dependable computer, and a professional home-working environment.

Availability overlapping with California business hours is strongly preferred.

Compensation

Compensation will depend on experience, demonstrated California workers’ compensation knowledge, and overall skill level.

We are willing to pay more for a candidate who already has meaningful California workers’ compensation experience and can contribute with minimal training.
