PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING
This is NOT a basic short-form clipping position.
If the majority of your experience is:
Podcast clips
CapCut/template-based editing
Generic TikTok/Reels edits
Animated captions + random B-roll + zooms
Replicating the typical "Alex Hormozi" short-form editing style
this position is probably not for you.
We are specifically looking for an editor with strong professional post-production fundamentals, particularly colour grading, pacing and storytelling.
Colour grading is the #1 skill we are hiring for.
You must be genuinely comfortable grading professionally shot Log footage inside DaVinci Resolve. Applying a LUT and adjusting contrast/saturation is not what we consider colour grading.
Your portfolio must demonstrate this.
About Us
Aethon Studios is a marketing and media production agency based in Melbourne, Australia.
We operate as both a marketing agency and a professional production house, producing high-quality video content for businesses and organisations.
Our work ranges from polished cinematic/commercial productions to natural organic social content and direct-response Meta advertisements.
We care significantly about production quality, colour, storytelling, sound and attention to detail.
We're not looking to produce generic high-volume "content agency" edits.
The Role
We're looking for a full-time DaVinci Resolve Video Editor / Colorist to become part of our production team long term.
Most projects are short-form, generally 30–90 seconds, but the editing style varies significantly.
One project might be a highly polished 60-second commercial with cinematic visuals, detailed sound design and carefully constructed pacing.
The next might be a talking-head organic video that should feel completely natural and barely edited.
Another might be a paid Meta ad where retention, hook delivery and clarity matter more than cinematic presentation.
A strong editor needs to understand the difference.
We do not want somebody who applies the same editing formula to every video.
Your Responsibilities
You will:
Edit high-quality short-form social media content
Edit cinematic/commercial-style videos
Edit natural organic content without unnecessarily over-editing it
Edit direct-response Meta advertisements
Occasionally edit longer-form content
Assemble footage from multiple takes, cameras and angles into one cohesive narrative
Professionally colour grade footage in DaVinci Resolve
Match shots accurately across different cameras, angles and lighting conditions
Create dynamic captions natively in Resolve
Perform detailed sound design
Select appropriate B-roll where required
Use pacing, music/nasheed where applicable, silence and sound intentionally
Create clean, simple motion graphics in After Effects when required
Follow detailed production briefs accurately
Implement revision feedback precisely
Communicate proactively with our production team
Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
#1 REQUIREMENT — COLOUR GRADING
This is the most important part of the position.
You should understand concepts such as:
Log footage and proper normalisation
Colour-managed workflows
CSTs / colour space transformations
Exposure correction
White balance
Skin tones
Shot matching
Primary and secondary corrections
Node-based grading workflows
Mixed lighting correction
Highlight and shadow control
Noise reduction where appropriate
Creating a consistent look across an entire project
You should be capable of taking professionally shot Log footage and producing a polished, consistent commercial result.
If your colour-grading experience consists mainly of applying LUTs or presets, please do not apply.
What We're Looking For
In order of importance:
1. Excellent Colour Grading
This is non-negotiable.
2. Pacing, Storytelling & Narrative Sense
You should understand why a cut is being made, not simply where to make one.
3. Editing Versatility
You need to know when a video should feel cinematic and when the editing needs to disappear completely.
4. Advanced DaVinci Resolve Skills
Our post-production workflow is Resolve-based.
We are not looking for a Premiere-only editor.
5. Strong Sound Design
Sound should be treated as an important part of the edit, not an afterthought.
6. After Effects
Basic/intermediate AE skills are sufficient. We mainly require clean motion graphics and simple animations rather than complex VFX.
7. Communication
You need to be responsive, clear and proactive.
8. Reliability & Time Management
We produce a significant amount of content. Deadlines and consistency matter.
DO NOT APPLY IF
Please do not apply if:
You primarily edit using CapCut
You only know Premiere Pro and are not experienced in Resolve
Your portfolio consists mainly of podcast clips
Your main editing skill is captions, B-roll and transitions
You depend heavily on templates or presets
You cannot confidently grade Log footage
You use LUTs as a substitute for colour grading
You cannot explain your colour-grading workflow
You apply essentially the same editing style to every short-form video
You struggle to follow detailed instructions
You are looking to take on this position alongside several other full-time jobs
We would rather receive 20 highly relevant applications than 200 generic applications.
Compensation
AUD $1,500/month — Full-Time
Plus:
Performance-based bonuses
Long-term position
Opportunity for increased responsibility as the production team grows
Opportunity to work across professionally produced commercial and social projects
We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the agency rather than simply complete individual editing tasks.
HOW TO APPLY — READ CAREFULLY
Applications that do not follow these instructions will not be reviewed.
The very first word of your application must be:
Aethon
Then provide the following:
1. Your Best Colour-Grading Example
Send a direct link to the specific video you believe demonstrates your colour-grading ability best.
Tell us:
What camera the footage was shot on, if known
What Log/gamma profile or colour space you worked with, if known
Whether you personally performed the entire grade
Briefly explain what you did to the footage
2. Your Best Cinematic / Commercial Edit
Send one direct link.
Do not send us an entire folder and ask us to find something.
3. Your Best Natural Organic/Social Edit
We specifically want to see whether you know how to make a good video without over-editing it.
Send one direct link.
5. Answer These Questions
A. How many years have you used DaVinci Resolve professionally?
B. When matching several shots filmed under slightly different lighting conditions, briefly explain how you approach getting them consistent.
C. What is one colour-grading mistake you regularly notice in social media videos?
D. What is the difference, in your opinion, between editing an organic social video and editing a paid Meta advertisement?
Keep your answers concise.
Important
Do not send us a generic cover letter.
We will be evaluating your work before your resume.
Applicants who demonstrate strong colour grading, storytelling and attention to detail will be shortlisted.
Shortlisted candidates will then complete a video editing trial using footage supplied by us before a final hiring decision is made.
If you've read and understood everything above, you already know what the first word of your application needs to be.
