I'm looking for a creative video editor to work with me on an ongoing basis editing long-form YouTube videos for my channel.
The videos are mainly tutorial / talking-head style, usually combining talking-head footage with screen recordings, B-roll, text, graphics, motion graphics, sound effects and other visual elements to keep the video engaging.
I'm not looking for a beginner. You should already be comfortable editing YouTube videos and be able to show examples of your previous work.
I have a specific editing style I'm developing for the channel, and I'm happy to provide examples, feedback and direction. I'm looking for someone who has a good foundation, good visual instincts and, importantly, is able to learn and improve quickly.
However, your knowledge and use of your preferred video editing tool must be advanced.
The goal is to develop a long-term working relationship where you become familiar with the channel, the editing style and what I'm looking for, rather than working with a different editor for every video.
THE EDITING
The raw material will mainly consist of:
* Talking-head footage
* Screen recordings / tutorials
* B-roll
* Graphics and images
The finished videos should feel polished, modern and visually interesting, as well as maintain rythm and engagement.
I'm looking for someone who understands how to make talking-head content more engaging through things such as:
* Good pacing and cuts
* Motion graphics
* Animated text and typography
* Zooms and visual emphasis
* Screen-recording animations
* Sound effects and sound design
* Creative transitions where appropriate
* Other visual ideas that help explain what is being discussed
I don't want excessive effects added just for the sake of it. The editing should support the content and help maintain viewer attention.
WORKLOAD
I expect approximately 2 long-form videos per month, although the amount of work may vary from month to month.
A typical video may involve approximately four or five days of editing, depending on its length and complexity.
This is therefore better suited to someone interested in an ongoing flexible collaboration rather than a fixed number of hours every week.
PAYMENT
I would prefer to pay per finished minute of edited video rather than per hour.
For example, if the final edited video is 20 minutes long, payment would be based on 20 finished minutes.
The exact rate can be agreed depending on your experience, portfolio and the level of editing required.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR
You should:
* Already have experience editing YouTube or similar online video content
* Be able to show examples of your previous editing work
* Have good visual and creative instincts
* Have some experience with motion graphics
* Be comfortable receiving detailed feedback
* Be able to reproduce a style from reference videos
* Be willing to learn and improve over time
* Communicate reliably
* Be interested in developing a long-term working relationship
I'm more interested in finding someone with good fundamentals, creativity and the ability to learn than someone with an impressive job title.
HOW TO APPLY
Please send me:
1. 2–3 examples of your best relevant editing work, preferably long-form YouTube, tutorial or talking-head videos.
2. Which editing software you use.
3. Your experience with motion graphics.
4. Your preferred rate per finished minute of edited video.
5. Your general availability.
Please don't send dozens of portfolio links. I'd rather see a few examples that genuinely represent the quality of work you can produce.
For shortlisted applicants, I may also offer a small paid test edit before beginning regular work.
