About the role
We run a YouTube channel, two instagram pages, and a membership community. We're looking for an editor with real video editing and animation skills, plus the ability to own content editing from raw footage -> long form polished edit -> short form edits and repurposing content as needed.
This is an ongoing, recurring role (per-video or weekly, negotiable) covering the full pipeline: long-form YouTube essays (30–40 min), podcast uploads (just the audio file from the long form content videos), thumbnails, and short-form Reels cut from the long-form material.
Technical requirements
- Dynamic masking & layering: Rotoscope/masking the subject(s) to composite them in front things onscreen
- Comfortable with keyframed mask tracking across moving subjects, not just static crops.
- Pattern interruptions / cutting rhythm: Break up static talking-head footage every few seconds using punch-in zooms, meme splices, and GIF cutaways — timed to beats in the VO, not randomly dropped in.
- Understand pacing well enough to combat attention drop-off across a 30–40 minute runtime without making the edit feel frantic of overdone
- Textual overlays / kinetic typography: Syncing quote cards, text, research citations, etc. over the footage according the the VO
- J-cuts & L-cuts
- color grading
- 2d onscreen stop motion animation
- Multimedia intercutting: intercut archival footage, stock clips, screen recordings, still images, and audio clips within a single sequence — multi-track compositing, not just A/B-roll switching.
- Basic video editing skills, of course
Plus Additional pipeline responsibilities:
- Long-form YouTube editing (using the skills above)
- Short form content editing (reels; using the skills above)
- Repurposing long form content into short form reels
- Content sourcing: Source appropriate footage, imagery, film clips, and reference material (YouTube, Pinterest, archive sites, etc.) that the masking and intercutting techniques above depend on.
- Creating YouTube thumbnails
- Creating Reel covers
- Exporting mp3 files of long form content
Tools/Skills
- A real NLE with compositing capability — Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or After Effects (masking/roto and multi-track work isn't feasible in a transcript-based editor alone; Descript may be used for the initial assembly/transcript-based cut, but final compositing needs a proper timeline tool).
- A thumbnail/graphics tool (Photoshop, Canva, etc.)
- Comfortable sourcing and downloading reference footage/images from YouTube, Pinterest, and archival sources.
- Familiarity with uploading/publishing to YouTube and a podcast host.
- Excellent English proficiency
What I'm looking for in you
- Real command of masking/keying, keyframed text, split edits, and multi-track compositing — not template-based or AI-slop-auto-edit work.
- Can own the full pipeline: raw footage ? composited long-form edit ? thumbnail ? published YouTube video ? podcast upload ? repurposed Reels.
- Strong pacing instincts for long-form (30–40 min) content — know how to keep attention without making the edit feel chaotic.
- Comfortable doing your own research/sourcing for the footage and imagery your composites depend on.
- Precise with instructions like "cut whole sentences only"
- Unique and creative artistic taste and eye. We are not looking for content that looks like everyone else's.
To apply:
Send a reel or examples showing masking/compositing work (subject placed into archival footage or scenes), J-cut/L-cut usage in a long-form piece, and text/citation overlay work.
please note: generic "talking head" video edit submissions will not be considered.
