I’m looking for a reliable, creative YouTube video editor to help me grow LifeByMJ, a personality-led YouTube channel focused on modern womanhood, culture, motherhood, money, career, relationships, current events, and life in your 30s/40s.
My content is primarily sit-down, talking-to-camera commentary, so I’m not looking for overly produced or flashy editing. I need someone who understands pacing, storytelling, humor, and how to keep a personality-driven video engaging without editing the personality out of it.
What You'll Edit
- Approximately 2–3 long-form YouTube videos per week
- Most finished videos will be around 10 – 20 minutes
- Primarily talking-head/commentary content
- Some videos will be evergreen and scheduled in advance
- Some videos will respond to trending cultural/news topics and require fast turnaround (within 24 hours)
Editing may include:
- Tightening pauses, repetition, mistakes, and unnecessary tangents
- Maintaining natural conversational pacing
- Strategic punch-ins/zooms
- Simple on-screen text when useful
- Adding screenshots, social posts, headlines, photos, or short reference clips I provide
- Basic audio cleanup and color correction
- Occasional music or sound effects where they naturally enhance the video
- Creating a polished final export ready for YouTube
- Channels/styles to emulate:
Brett Cooper: speed, pacing and integration of topical clips:
Glo Atanmo: personality, warmth and creator-led storytelling:
Tiffany Ferguson: turning internet/cultural conversations into thoughtful larger arguments:
I do not want constant animations, excessive B-roll, meme effects every few seconds, or hyperactive editing. The content and personality should remain the focus.
The Most Important Requirement: Reliability
Some of my content will be based on trending conversations.
For those videos, I need an editor who can occasionally provide a 24-hour first-cut turnaround after receiving footage.
For normal evergreen videos, turnaround will typically be 2–3 days.
You must:
- Communicate clearly if there is a delay or issue
- Confirm when footage has been received
- Meet agreed-upon deadlines consistently
- Respond within a reasonable timeframe during working days
- Be organized enough to manage multiple videos without me constantly following up
I am very easy to work with, but I do not want to manage or chase my editor.
Who I'm Looking For
You may be a great fit if you:
- Have experience editing YouTube talking-head, commentary, podcast, lifestyle, or personality-driven videos
- Understand YouTube pacing and audience retention
- Have strong English comprehension
- Can recognize humor, sarcasm, emotion, and important moments in conversation
- Can remove rambling while preserving the creator's natural voice
- Understand American culture and internet conversations well enough to edit topical content
- Are comfortable working with content about women, motherhood, culture, politics/current events, money, relationships, and social media
- Are proactive and organized
- Are interested in growing with a channel long term
Experience editing content primarily for women ages approximately 30–50 is a plus.
Workload & Budget
Initial workload:
- 8–12 long-form videos per month
- Approximately 2–3 videos per week
My current budget is up to $500 USD/month, depending on experience, workload, and fit.
I am open to either a monthly arrangement or a per-video rate.
This will begin as a paid trial before moving into an ongoing relationship.
To Apply
Please send:
- A short introduction about yourself.
- 2–3 examples of talking-head, commentary, podcast, or personality-driven YouTube videos you have edited.
- Your typical turnaround time for an 8–15 minute YouTube video.
- Whether you can occasionally accommodate a 24-hour turnaround for trending content.
Your rate for:
- One long-form video
- 8 videos/month
- 12 videos/month
- What editing software you use.
- Your time zone and typical working hours.
- Tell me briefly: What makes a talking-head YouTube video interesting even when there isn't a lot of B-roll?
Please start your application with the phrase “LifeByMJ” so I know you read the entire posting.
Paid Editing Test
Final candidates may be asked to complete a short paid editing test using the same source footage.
I am looking for someone who can become a consistent part of the LifeByMJ production process—not just complete one-off edits. If the fit is strong and the channel grows, there is room for the role and compensation to grow as well.
