We are looking for a Marine Mechanical / Ship Systems Design Engineer to design and integrate mechanical systems for commercial vessels and marine projects.
This position involves both engineering judgment and hands-on CAD work. You will be responsible for taking system requirements through arrangement, detailed design, coordination, and production release.
Responsibilities include:
- Design machinery and auxiliary-system arrangements
- Develop piping layouts and 3D routing
- Select and integrate pumps, valves, tanks, heat exchangers, and other equipment
- Develop engine-room and machinery-space arrangements
- Design equipment foundations, supports, and mechanical interfaces
- Coordinate piping, HVAC, electrical, structural, and outfitting systems
- Perform interference and clearance checks
- Ensure equipment remains accessible for inspection, operation, and maintenance
- Review vendor drawings and incorporate supplier equipment into vessel models
- Resolve design changes and production issues
- Produce and review engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials
- Participate in design reviews and coordinate with naval architects, structural engineers, and production teams
We are particularly interested in candidates who have personally owned ship systems rather than only performing drafting work.
Experience with ShipConstructor, AutoCAD, AVEVA Marine, SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA, NX, or similar platforms is useful.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related field
- 3+ years of marine, shipbuilding, offshore, or heavy mechanical design experience
- Strong understanding of piping and machinery systems
- Experience working with large 3D assemblies
- Ability to independently resolve arrangement and integration problems
- Experience supporting fabrication or vessel construction is highly desirable
