About the Role
We're looking for an enthusiastic, reliable STEM tutor to work with our 10-year-old daughter (5th grade) on weekends. This is an ongoing, long-term position — not homework help alone, but real teaching: building strong foundations in math and science, making the subjects genuinely fun, and getting ahead of the school curriculum rather than just keeping up with it.
The right person loves teaching kids, knows how to make STEM hands-on and engaging (experiments, projects, games — not worksheets), and can bring structure and patience to every session.
Schedule
Weekend sessions: [Saturdays / Sundays / both], 4-5hours per session
Flexible scheduling around family weekends — some weekends will shift; we'll share the calendar monthly in advance
Consistent, recurring commitment through the school year, with option to continue through summer
What You'll Do
Teach and reinforce math and science at grade level and beyond
Build sessions around hands-on projects and experiments that make STEM exciting
Support current schoolwork when needed (homework, test prep, projects)
Identify gaps and strengths, and adapt lessons to how the student learns best
Introduce age-appropriate coding, robotics, or engineering concepts as interest grows
Give a short progress note to the parent after each session and a monthly check-in on goals
Required Qualifications
Teaching or tutoring experience with upper-elementary students (classroom teachers, current/former educators, and graduate students welcome)
Strong command of elementary and middle school math and science content (able to teach ahead into 6th–7th grade material)
Patient, energetic, and genuinely enjoys working with kids
Reliable weekend availability and punctuality
Able to pass a background check
Excellent communication with parents
Preferred
Licensed/certified teacher or education degree
Experience with hands-on STEM enrichment for girls this age (science kits, LEGO robotics, Scratch coding, math competitions, Girls Who Code-style programs)
Familiarity with [state] curriculum standards
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
Why You'll Like It
One dedicated student — real impact you can see, no classroom management
Supportive, engaged parent; materials and supplies budget provided
Consistent weekend income at a competitive rate, long-term stability
