## Video Editor – YouTube Travel & Nightlife Content
I’m looking for a **long-term video editor** to help with YouTube travel, nightlife, interview, and vlog-style content.
### #1 REQUIREMENT — DaVinci Resolve
You **must be highly experienced and fluent in DaVinci Resolve**.
This is non-negotiable.
You should be comfortable working efficiently with:
* Edit Page
* Fairlight
* Color Page
* Fusion when needed
* Adjustment clips
* Keyframes
* Tracking and masking
* Face/object blurring
* Audio cleanup and leveling
* Multicam or multiple-camera footage
* Proxies / optimized media
* Project organization
* Export presets and YouTube delivery
I am **not** looking for someone who primarily edits in Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut, or another editor and is simply willing to learn Resolve.
I need someone who already uses DaVinci Resolve regularly and understands it well enough to work quickly without needing basic instruction.
### What I’m Looking For
The ideal editor understands that good editing is much more than removing dead space.
You should have a strong feel for:
* Storytelling
* Pacing
* Comedy and timing
* Keeping conversations interesting
* Knowing when to cut and when to let a moment breathe
* Music selection and placement
* B-roll
* Subtle zooms and motion
* Tasteful sound effects when appropriate
* Building an entertaining story from unscripted footage
The goal is to make the video entertaining because of the **story, personalities, conversations, pacing, and timing** — not because there is an effect every few seconds.
### Editing Style — Important
I am **not** looking for an editor whose primary experience is:
* Gaming videos or gameplay highlight reels
* Gaming clips or montage-style content
* Hyperactive short-form or TikTok-style editing
* Meme-heavy editing
* Constant animated captions
* Excessive zooms
* Flashy transitions
* Overused sound effects
* Random reaction inserts
* Cheesy effects such as “5 hours later,” meme cutaways, cartoon graphics, or similar gimmicks
Those styles may work well for other channels, but they are not the style I am looking for.
My content is primarily **real-world travel, nightlife, interviews, conversations, and vlog footage**.
I prefer editing that feels:
* Natural
* Clean
* Polished
* Mature
* Cinematic when appropriate
* Entertaining without feeling over-edited
A strong editor for this position should understand that sometimes the best editing decision is **not adding anything at all**.
### Current Channel & Future Content
You can review the current channel here:
**YouTube: No Second Chances**
Please watch several videos before applying so you understand the current pacing, style, personalities, and overall tone.
However, do **not** assume every future project will look exactly like the current channel.
We will also be producing other types of content, including:
* Travel videos
* Destination and location guides
* Interviews
* Lifestyle content
* Documentary-style segments
* Restaurant and activity videos
* Other real-world unscripted content
I am looking for an editor who can adapt to different types of videos while still maintaining strong storytelling and good judgment.
### Typical Content
Most projects involve:
* Travel vlogs
* Nightlife videos
* Street interviews
* Restaurant and location segments
* Conversations with guests
* Unscripted situations
* Longer footage that needs to be shaped into an entertaining story
Footage may come from:
* Mirrorless cameras
* Action cameras
* Phones
* 360 cameras
* Multiple cameras during the same shoot
You should be comfortable sorting through longer recordings and identifying the moments that are actually worth keeping.
### Audio
Audio quality is extremely important.
You should be comfortable using **Fairlight** to:
* Balance dialogue levels
* Reduce background noise when appropriate
* Compress dialogue
* EQ voices
* Control peaks
* Mix background music underneath conversations
* Keep volume consistent throughout the video
* Handle audio from different cameras and microphones
I do not want to constantly repair audio after receiving an edit.
### Color
You should be comfortable doing basic color correction and matching footage between different cameras.
I prefer:
* Natural skin tones
* Realistic colors
* Clean contrast
* Consistent exposure
* A polished but realistic image
I do **not** want:
* Heavy HDR looks
* Oversaturation
* Orange skin
* Extreme sharpening
* Aggressive LUTs
* Artificial-looking color grades
### Internet Connection — Very Important
Because we regularly work with **large amounts of high-resolution video footage**, a fast and reliable internet connection is extremely important.
Your computer hardware is your responsibility. I do not care what system you use as long as you can edit the footage efficiently and deliver reliable results.
Your internet connection must be capable of regularly downloading and uploading very large project files.
**Minimum preferred connection:**
* 100 Mbps download
* 100 Mbps upload
* Stable connection
* No restrictive monthly data cap
Faster is strongly preferred.
Applicants may be asked to provide a recent Speedtest result showing download speed, upload speed, and ping.
### Organization
Projects should have:
* Properly named timelines
* Organized bins
* Clean media organization
* Logical folder structure
* Consistent file naming
* No unnecessary duplicate media
* No missing assets when a project is returned
I want to be able to open your DaVinci Resolve project and immediately understand how it is organized.
### Workload
We will start with approximately **one long-form video per week**.
A typical finished video will usually be around **20–40 minutes long**.
If the working relationship goes well, additional projects and more frequent work may become available.
I would rather start slowly, establish a good workflow, and increase the workload once we know we work well together.
### Compensation
Compensation will generally be **per completed video rather than open-ended hourly billing**.
A normal 20–40 minute long-form video will typically pay approximately:
**$80–150 USD per completed video**
Final pricing depends on:
* Amount of raw footage
* Number of cameras
* Audio complexity
* Required masking or blurring
* Amount of B-roll
* Overall difficulty of the project
More complicated projects can be priced separately.
Before work begins, we will agree on the:
* Scope
* Price
* Expected finished length
* Delivery date
Additional work outside the agreed scope should be discussed before doing it.
### Communication & Reliability
I am looking for someone dependable who:
* Communicates clearly
* Can follow detailed notes
* Takes constructive feedback well
* Learns from revisions
* Does not repeatedly make the same mistakes
* Can gradually become more independent
* Meets agreed deadlines
The goal is not for me to supervise every editing decision.
Over time, I want you to understand the channel well enough that I can send footage and notes and receive a strong first edit.
### Portfolio
When applying, please send examples of your **best long-form work**.
I am especially interested in:
* Travel videos
* Vlogs
* Interviews
* Documentary-style content
* Lifestyle content
* Real-world unscripted footage
Please do **not** send only:
* Gaming montages
* Shorts
* TikTok edits
* Music videos
* Meme compilations
* Special-effects reels
If your portfolio does not demonstrate long-form storytelling and pacing, it will be difficult to evaluate whether you are a good fit.
### Paid Test Edit
Final candidates may be asked to complete a **paid test edit** using the same footage and instructions.
This allows me to compare:
* Storytelling
* Editing decisions
* Pacing
* Audio
* Color
* Organization
* Attention to detail
* Ability to follow instructions
If the test goes well, we will begin with approximately one video per week and build from there.
I am looking for quality and good judgment, not simply who can add the most effects.
### Current Channel & Future Content
You can review the current channel here:
Please watch **at least 2–3 recent videos before applying** so you understand the current pacing, style, personalities, and overall tone.
When you apply, please tell me:
* Which video(s) you watched
* One thing you think the current editing does well
* One thing you would improve or approach differently
There is no single “correct” answer. I want to see that you actually watched the content and understand the type of editing we are trying to improve.
However, do **not** assume every future project will look exactly like the current channel.
We will also be producing other types of content, including:
* Travel videos
* Destination and location guides
* Interviews
* Lifestyle content
* Documentary-style segments
* Restaurant and activity videos
* Other real-world unscripted content
I am looking for an editor who can adapt to different types of videos while maintaining strong storytelling, natural pacing, and good judgment.
