JOB OVERVIEW

Millwork company is looking for a technically strong AutoCAD Drafter to join our team and work on detailed shop drawings for custom architectural millwork and furniture.

This is not a 3D modeling, rendering, or visualization position.

We are looking for someone who enjoys the technical side of furniture and millwork - understanding how cabinets, built-ins, wall panels, reception desks, and other custom pieces are actually constructed and assembled.

Our work is done primarily in AutoCAD, and our drawings are used directly by our production team to manufacture and install custom millwork.

What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate is highly proficient in AutoCAD and has experience with millwork, cabinetry, furniture, or detailed fabrication drawings.
Previous professional millwork drafting experience is strongly preferred. However, we are also interested in technically minded AutoCAD drafters who have a strong understanding of furniture construction and are willing to learn our drafting and production standards.
We have established standards for drawing layouts, details, hatches, hardware, construction methods, and documentation. We will train the right person on how we work.

What matters most is your AutoCAD ability, technical thinking, attention to detail, understanding of construction, and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities
Produce detailed AutoCAD shop drawings for custom millwork and furniture
Create plans, elevations, sections, and fabrication details
Develop drawings that clearly communicate how each piece will be manufactured and assembled
Dimension components accurately for production
Detail materials, hardware, joinery, reveals, clearances, and other construction requirements
Read and interpret architectural drawings and project information
Revise drawings based on redlines and technical feedback
Follow Brooklyn Millwork drafting standards, templates, hatches, and detailing methods
Coordinate technical questions with Project Managers and Production
Prepare organized CAD and PDF drawing packages for review and fabrication
Requirements
Strong AutoCAD proficiency is required
Experience with millwork, cabinetry, furniture, or fabrication drawings
Strong technical and construction-oriented thinking
Ability to understand how something shown on a drawing will actually be built
Ability to read architectural plans, elevations, sections, and details
High attention to dimensions and technical details
Good file organization and drafting discipline
Conversational English for communication with our US-based team
Willingness to learn and follow our drafting standards and construction methods
Strongly Preferred
Previous experience producing millwork or cabinetry shop drawings
Experience working with a cabinet or millwork manufacturer
Understanding of cabinet construction and furniture assembly
Knowledge of hinges, drawer slides, fasteners, and other cabinet hardware
Hands-on furniture fabrication, cabinet assembly, or installation experience
Familiarity with US architectural drawings and standards

This position is focused on 2D technical AutoCAD drafting.

We are not looking for:
3D modelers
SketchUp specialists
Rendering artists
Interior design visualization
Architectural visualization portfolios

If your portfolio primarily consists of 3D models and renderings, this position is probably not the right fit.

We want to see technical AutoCAD drawings, especially detailed drawings showing how furniture, cabinetry, or millwork is constructed.
