WHO WE ARE
Symmes Law Group is a consumer bankruptcy and real estate law firm in Seattle, WA, in practice since 2010. We're intentionally small — you'd work directly with the attorney handling your files, not through layers of case managers at a high-volume shop. Our last VA in this role stayed 2 years and is leaving on good terms for a new opportunity; we're looking to build that kind of long-term relationship again, at a competitive wage.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
A self-starter who doesn't need to be micromanaged to stay on top of deadlines
Genuinely organized — the kind of person who catches a missing document before anyone asks
Someone who actually cares about helping people through financial distress, not just processing files. Our clients are often at a hard point in their lives, and how you talk to them matters as much as how accurately you fill out a schedule.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Prepare Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 petitions from client intake documents: pull data from credit reports, paystubs, bank statements, and tax returns
Complete schedules, the Statement of Financial Affairs, and the means test worksheet using bankruptcy software (Best Case, NextChapter, Jubilee, or Glade a strong plus)
Spot missing documents and follow up with clients directly
Submit 341 documents to bankruptcy trustees
Answer phones, schedule appointments, handle professional client communication
Draft correspondence and legal documents under attorney guidance
Support debt settlement negotiations and case tracking
Manage matters in Lawmatics (our CRM/practice management system) — updating case status, tasks, and client communication
Cross-train into other practice areas as you grow: purchase and sale transactions, short sales, estate planning, probate — more variety than a pure-BK shop
REQUIRED
At least 1 year preparing US bankruptcy petitions, or 2+ years in a US law firm, mortgage servicing, or similar role handling US financial documents daily
Strong English reading and Communication ability — able to read a tax return or mortgage statement and know what you're looking at and communiate with clients and third parties over the phone and through e-mail.
Comfortable with Adobe Pro, MS Word, Google Workspace
Reliable internet (25+ Mbps) and backup power
NICE TO HAVE
Experience with Jubilee, Lawmatics, or similar legal CRM/case management software
Debt settlement or debt negotiation experience
WHY STAY
Direct access to the attorney — real mentorship, not a queue
Broader skill set across practice areas, not single-track petition assembly
Proven track record: predecessor was here 2 years
Competitive pay at the top of market for proven skill
