Job Overview
The Billing and Collections Representative is responsible for processing all payments and statements according to practice policy. This role covers the full range of billing and collections functions.
What You’ll Do
• Receive and post payments, send patient statements, and process refunds.
• Pursue delinquent accounts, set payment arrangements, and follow up on missed payments.
• Track billing and collections, reconcile monthly A/R, investigate debts, and resolve billing issues.
• Set up payment/payroll deductions and obtain automatic-transfer signatures.
• Contact patients and insurance payors about overdue payments and outstanding claims via Intermedia VoIP.
• Update account statuses, process approved write-offs/adjustments, and report collection progress.
• Oversee Athena billing features, including statements, balancing, and invoice approval.
• Use Phreesia for secure payment links and patient payment support.
• Follow coding guidelines, HIPAA, practice policies, and applicable laws and standards.
• Maintain quality, confidentiality, and job knowledge through continuing education.
• Scan supporting work files as directed by the supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
• Comfortable making and receiving calls with U.S. patients and insurance representatives.
• Excellent computer skills, including Windows applications.
• Three years of outpatient medical billing experience preferred.
• Athena EMR/practice management experience preferred; Phreesia familiarity a plus.
• Experience interpreting Medicare, Medicaid, commercial, and other payor remittances.
• Strong time management, organization, attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods.
Remote Work Requirements
• Reliable high-speed internet and a quiet, private workspace for confidential patient information.
• Ability to use Intermedia VoIP for calls with U.S. patients and insurance payors.
• Availability to substantially overlap with U.S. Eastern Time business hours; schedule to be confirmed.
• Strictly follow HIPAA and U.S. data privacy/security requirements when working remotely.
