Purpose of the role:
BSE Australia is establishing a dedicated electrical construction division alongside its existing industrial electrical, automation and control work. The Electrical Estimator is central to that expansion.
The role is responsible for producing complete, competitive estimates across both streams of work — identifying suitable tenders, pricing them accurately, and developing the estimating systems required to build a sustainable pipeline.
Key responsibilities:
*Prepare complete estimates end to end — take-offs, labour, materials, supplier pricing, RFIs, assumptions, exclusions and final tender submissions
*Review tender documentation, drawings and specifications, and identify scope gaps, ambiguities and commercial risk in incomplete documentation
*Source and compare supplier and subcontractor pricing
*Identify and assess suitable tender opportunities for the new electrical construction division
*Develop and maintain estimating templates, rate libraries and pricing databases
*Maintain a tender register and report on submissions, outcomes and pricing performance
Essential criteria:
*These requirements are non-negotiable. Applications that do not meet all essential criteria will not be progressed.
*Recognised electrical qualification, such as an electrical engineering degree, electrical trade qualification or equivalent. *Applicants whose primary qualification is civil, mechanical or another non-electrical discipline will not be considered.
*Minimum five years’ dedicated electrical estimating experience within the industrial electrical construction sector.
*Demonstrated responsibility for preparing complete estimates through to final tender submission — not take-offs alone.
*Experience estimating industrial electrical projects, including new installations, brownfield upgrades, plant expansions and shutdown works.
*Proven experience estimating a range of industrial electrical systems, including power distribution, switchboards and MCCs, cable containment, field cabling, motors and drives, instrumentation, control systems and associated installation works.
*Ability to develop labour estimates that account for site conditions, access constraints, staging, testing, commissioning, shutdowns and work within operational facilities.
*Strong understanding of electrical drawings, specifications, cable schedules, equipment schedules, scopes of work and tender documentation.
*Advanced Excel skills and practical experience using electrical estimating software.
*Proven ability to obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations, complete tender comparisons and identify commercial or technical risks.
*Experience preparing estimates independently for projects in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or comparable metric-system markets.
*Strong written English and the ability to identify scope gaps, constructability issues and missing information within incomplete tender documentation.
*Ability to clearly document tender qualifications, exclusions, assumptions, clarifications and commercial risks.
Highly desirable:
*Commercial or construction electrical estimating experience across new builds, upgrades and fit-outs.
*Familiarity with AS/NZS standards.
*Experience establishing or improving estimating systems, rate libraries and pricing databases.
*Exposure to hazardous area, process or automation projects.
Screening Questions
Every applicant is required to answer the following questions before their application can be reviewed. Kindly answer each question in full, as incomplete responses may affect your application.
1. What is your electrical qualification? Please state the qualification title, institution, and year completed.
2. How many years have you worked as a dedicated Electrical Estimator, and which estimating software have you used?
3. Describe two industrial electrical projects you have estimated, including:
Project scope
Approximate project value
Country/market
Systems involved (e.g. switchboards, MCCs, cabling, motors and drives, instrumentation, control systems)
4.Which parts of the estimate you personally prepared
