Video Editor — DaVinci Resolve (Full Time, Long Term)

Compensation: $1,500 USD/month for 90 days, then up to $2,000 USD/month and beyond based on job expansion and skill

Role overview
We are hiring a full-time editor to own our long form editing department with short form layered in.
I am the Creative Director here, and you would be working directly with me.

I do not hire button pushers. I want you thinking about the work, solving problems, bringing ideas, and understanding how your edits affect performance. I set creative direction and I make the final call on it. Push me for a better idea, and then own the execution completely once the direction is set. That is the deal, and it works well when both people understand it going in.

You will work inside shared DaVinci Resolve project libraries on Blackmagic Cloud, which means I give you feedback on your actual timeline instead of vague notes on an exported file. I am a Resolve editor myself, so I will be in there with you as needed.

Responsibilities
- Editing
- Long-form video, typically 10 to 45 minutes, talking head plus b-roll. Podcasts are longer
- Short-form verticals, both pulled from long-form and produced as dedicated pieces
- Podcasts, including sizzle reel-style intros that pull the most compelling ---------- nts forward
- Multicam cutting for seamless flow
- VFX and motion graphics. A real requirement, not a nice-to-have
- Color and audio. Proficiency in the Resolve color page and Fairlight
- Clean project files, bins, timelines, and naming conventions
- Use of brand created and controlled assets for efficient, reproducible content
- Restructure dedicated long-form footage for retention. You will move sections, cut tangents, and build the video that should exist if needed.

Building
- Reusable templates for captions, title cards, transitions, lower thirds, and branded assets
- Every template you build saves time on every video after it. You are helping develop the content department, not just working in it

Contributing
- Identify the strongest ---------- nts worth clipping for short form. I will help as needed until brand voice is recognized
- Contribute packaging ideas: titles, thumbnail directions, and angles
- Suggest improvements to flow, pacing, structure, or visual style based on what you see in the footage
- Flag weak sections before anyone asks

Solving
- Research techniques and work out how to build something you have not built before
- Use AI as a tool when it helps. We can tell the difference between using AI to solve a technical problem and letting it make editorial decisions and think for you
We will teach you our standards and goals. We are not going to teach you your craft.

Results
What success looks like:
- Long-form delivered on schedule, consistently enough that we can plan a publishing calendar around you
- Fewer than 10 revision notes in the first five minutes of a first cut by day 30
- Proposing structure rather than receiving it by day 60
- Three to five notes across a full video by day 90
- Short-form clips produced from every long-form piece
- Short-form selections we agree with without discussion
- A growing library of templates that speeds up every future video
- Clean project organization maintained across every file
- Clear communication: updates I can act on, and one good question up front instead of five along the way
- Letting me know early if you get backlogged and a solution for it
- Creative input that measurably improves the content, not just executes it
- These bars are shared with you on day one. Meeting them is what moves your compensation at 90 days.

Requirements
- Minimum 2 years professional video editing is preferred. We care far more about your portfolio than your years
- DaVinci Resolve as your primary editing software is preferred
- Portfolio including at least one long-form piece over 10 minutes
- Demonstrable VFX or motion graphics work. Fusion experience is a significant advantage. Comfort with template tools like MotionVFX counts too
- Strong eye for pacing, storytelling, and pulling out the ---------- nts that matter
- Ability to take feedback, iterate quickly, and deliver reliably against deadlines
- Familiarity with vertical formats for Reels and Shorts
- Character matters: Massive ownership and teachability and initiative are critical to this role.
- Excellent English comprehension. You need to hear the strongest line in an hour of talking and know it is the strongest line. That is most of this job
- Spoken English strong enough that we never have to slow down for it. I will be giving you direction and asking you questions, often quickly. I need us to understand each other the first time, without either of us stopping to decode what the other meant. If English is a strain for you in live conversation, this role will be frustrating for both of us and I would rather you know that now.
- Organized and detail-oriented, with clean file structures

Hardware and connection
- Discrete GPU with at least 8GB VRAM. 12GB or more strongly preferred. NVIDIA is preferred because Resolve is CUDA-optimized. An RTX 3060 12GB is a good reference point for what handles this work comfortably
- 32GB RAM minimum. Resolve wants this for Fusion and larger timelines
- NVMe SSD for your system and cache is preferred
- Minimum 50 Mbps upload. You will sync large project libraries daily
- A real backup plan for power and internet outages
- I will ask for screenshots of your specs and a speed test

Bonus if you have:
- Fusion depth
- Prior work in shared project libraries or collaborative editing environments
- Background in design, thumbnails, or packaging
- Experience with faith-based, coaching, or education content
- You do not need to pay for anything. We own the Blackmagic Cloud library and cover all software and cloud costs.

Rhythm
- Full time, and you must work consistent hours covering US Central standard work hours. This is a hard requirement and it is not negotiable. The way I work with you depends on live overlap. Hours that only reach US evening will not work. Please do not apply if you cannot commit to this schedule

- Daily end-of-day update: what was completed, what is in progress, any blocks

How this role grows
You are being hired to cover both long form and short form. With an emphasis on long-form as the primary skill and focus. As our content volume increases we expect to add a second editor and split the lanes so each person works to their strength. Which lane you take is a conversation we will have based on where you are strongest.

Compensation
- $1,500 USD per month for a 90 day trial. Paid weekly. Growth up to $2,000 USD per month based on performance and review after 90 days. Income can grow with this position as it expands and skill increases.

How the hiring process works
