Remote | Flexible Hours | Long-Term Opportunity
Virtual Colleague, under the Shoutout Digital Group, is looking for an experienced Shopify Developer to support one of our Australian ecommerce clients.
This isn't a one-off project. We're looking for someone we'd love to work with long-term, someone who can become the go-to developer for ongoing improvements, new features and technical support as the business continues to grow.
The website is a well-established Shopify store with custom-built functionality, so we're looking for someone who is confident working with existing code, thinks carefully before making changes, and genuinely enjoys solving technical problems.
What you'll be doing
- Develop and maintain an established Shopify website
- Build landing pages and new website features
- Improve product pages, collection pages and other areas of the site
- Implement promotions, pop-ups and campaign assets
- Troubleshoot bugs and resolve technical issues
- Work closely with the Australian marketing team to bring ideas to life
- Support website improvements and conversion-focused updates
What we're looking for
- Several years of hands-on Shopify development experience
- Strong knowledge of Shopify Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Experience working with customised Shopify themes
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Someone who can work independently and communicate well with a remote team
Bonus points if you have experience with:
- CRO or A/B testing
- Shopify apps and integrations
- Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
- Performance optimisation
- High-volume ecommerce websites
Working Arrangement
This is a flexible, long-term role. Not a traditional full-time, 8-hour-a-day role.
The first few weeks may involve additional hours while you get familiar with the website, existing systems and ways of working. Once you're comfortable with the business, we're expecting the role to transition into an ongoing retainer-style arrangement with flexible hours based on upcoming projects and website improvements.
As an example, this could include a monthly retainer covering a set number of development hours (for example, around 15 hours per month), with any additional work billed separately at an agreed hourly rate. This allows the client to have a trusted developer available for ongoing support while providing flexibility for both sides.
If you're shortlisted, we'll be happy to discuss the working and pay arrangement with you, including whether a monthly retainer or an hourly engagement fee would be the best fit.
Why join us?
We work with Australian businesses that value long-term partnerships.
You'll have the opportunity to work closely with an experienced marketing team, contribute to meaningful ecommerce projects, and build an ongoing relationship with a growing business rather than jumping between short-term freelance projects.
