## About Growing Pains Marketing
Growing Pains Marketing is a performance marketing agency that helps eCommerce brands scale in complex and restricted industries.
Our team includes dedicated media buyers, creative strategists, designers, video editors, tracking specialists, and operations professionals.
We are hiring a Client Performance Director to take ownership of the performance, strategy, health, and retention of a portfolio of client accounts.
This is not a traditional account management role.
You will not be responsible for personally launching ads, designing creative, editing videos, or completing technical implementations.
Your responsibility is to ensure that the right strategy is being executed, performance issues are diagnosed correctly, the internal team remains aligned, and clients clearly understand what is happening with their businesses.
## The Role
The Client Performance Director is the quarterback of the client account.
You will own the overall health and performance of your assigned portfolio.
You must understand each client’s business, monitor results, identify risks and opportunities, coordinate the appropriate specialists, and ensure every account has a clear plan for improvement.
You do not need to be the person pushing buttons inside Meta Ads Manager.
However, you must understand performance marketing well enough to:
* Evaluate campaign strategy
* Interpret advertising and business data
* Diagnose performance problems
* Identify root causes
* Challenge recommendations when something does not make sense
* Communicate complex issues in simple language
* Coordinate the team responsible for solving the problem
* Hold both the client and internal team accountable
Your job is not to personally solve every issue.
Your job is to make sure the correct issue is identified, assigned to the right person, and resolved quickly.
## Key Responsibilities
### Own Client Performance
* Take responsibility for the overall performance and health of assigned client accounts
* Understand each client’s products, offers, margins, customer journey, goals, and performance targets
* Monitor advertising, website, revenue, and customer-performance metrics
* Identify meaningful changes, risks, and opportunities
* Ensure every account has a documented strategy, testing roadmap, and next set of priorities
* Prevent accounts from drifting without a clear plan
* Hold the internal team accountable for executing agreed-upon strategies
* Escalate major risks before they become client emergencies
### Diagnose Performance Issues
Review the entire customer-acquisition journey to determine where performance is breaking down.
Potential issues may include:
* Media-buying strategy
* Creative performance
* Creative fatigue
* Offer strength
* Positioning and messaging
* Landing-page conversion
* Website or checkout problems
* Tracking and attribution
* Average order value
* Customer acquisition cost
* Customer lifetime value
* Inventory or fulfillment
* Account infrastructure
* Customer retention
* Insufficient testing volume
* Unreliable or incomplete data
You must be able to separate symptoms from root causes and recommend the correct next steps.
### Lead Client Communication
* Serve as the primary strategic point of contact for assigned clients
* Lead recurring client calls, performance reviews, and strategy discussions
* Clearly explain results, problems, decisions, and next steps
* Set realistic expectations while maintaining client confidence
* Communicate difficult news directly and professionally
* Avoid blaming clients, media buyers, creative teams, or other departments
* Ensure clients understand what is happening, why it is happening, and what the team is doing next
* Respond to concerns quickly and prevent communication gaps
* Build trusted relationships with founders, executives, and senior marketing leaders
### Coordinate the Internal Team
* Translate client goals and concerns into clear internal action items
* Keep media buying, creative, tracking, operations, and leadership aligned
* Assign clear owners and deadlines for important account actions
* Follow up until issues are fully resolved
* Confirm that approved strategies and deliverables are implemented correctly
* Identify resource constraints before they impact client performance
* Ensure internal recommendations support the client’s broader business goals
* Keep leadership informed about account health, client sentiment, and growth opportunities
### Protect Retention and Growth
* Identify dissatisfaction and account risk before a client d
* Build recovery plans for underperforming accounts
* Improve retention through clarity, accountability, strategy, and communication
* Identify opportunities to expand client relationships when additional services would create value
* Help successful clients scale while protecting profitability and operational capacity
* Ensure clients receive measurable value from their relationship with GPM
## What You Will Not Be Responsible For
You will not be expected to:
* Personally manage daily advertising campaigns
* Design static advertisements
* Edit videos
* Write every creative brief
* Build landing pages
* Complete technical tracking implementations
* Handle every operational task yourself
GPM has specialists responsible for execution.
However, you must understand these areas well enough to determine whether the work is strategically sound and producing the intended result.
## Required Experience
* Five or more years of experience in account management, client strategy, performance marketing, eCommerce, or a related role
* Experience owning a meaningful portfolio of client revenue
* Strong understanding of Meta advertising and direct-response marketing
* Experience working with businesses spending significant amounts on paid advertising
* Ability to interpret advertising, website, attribution, and business-performance data
* Experience leading executive-level client calls
* Demonstrated ability to retain and grow demanding client relationships
* Strong strategic thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through
* Ability to coordinate multiple specialists without micromanaging them
* Ability to remain calm and decisive during performance declines, account restrictions, or client escalations
## Metrics You Should Understand
You should be comfortable interpreting and discussing:

* Average order value
* Conversion rate
* Click-through rate

You do not need to calculate every metric manually, but you must understand what each metric means and how it affects business decisions.
## You May Be a Strong Fit If
* You naturally take ownership instead of waiting to be told what to do
* You care about business outcomes, not simply completing tasks
* You can identify when a client’s offer, website, operations, or sales process is affecting advertising performance
* You can respectfully challenge a media buyer, strategist, client, or executive
* You remain calm when performance declines or an account experiences a serious issue
* You can explain complicated marketing problems in simple language
* You identify problems before the client brings them to your attention
* You are comfortable delivering both good and bad news
* You follow commitments through to completion
* You understand that keeping a client happy is not the same as giving them honest strategic leadership
## You Are Probably Not a Fit If
* You believe account management primarily consists of sending reports and scheduling meetings
* You avoid difficult conversations
* You rely entirely on media buyers to explain account performance
* You cannot interpret advertising or eCommerce data
* You frequently lose track of commitments or deadlines
* You blame other departments instead of coordinating solutions
* You require detailed instructions before taking action
* You tell clients what they want to hear instead of what they need to know
* You wait for clients to identify issues
* You are uncomfortable being accountable for outcomes produced by a broader team
