JOB OVERVIEW

AMN Collective Solutions is a UK chartered accountancy practice, serving owner-managed limited companies, sole traders, landlords and contractors across Hertfordshire and North-West London. We work in a fully cloud-based environment and are Xero-certified and Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliant.

Our client base spans a range of sectors including motor trade, construction, bridging finance, property and IT consultancy.
We are growing steadily and are expanding our offshore delivery team to support that growth.

This Accountant role will take ownership of the preparation of UK statutory year-end accounts and UK personal tax returns from client records through to a file ready for director review and submission. The role also carries responsibility for supporting bookkeeping, VAT and management reporting work as the portfolio requires.

This is a delivery-focused, technically demanding role. The successful candidate will be expected to produce a complete, well-referenced working paper file with minimal supervision, and to raise clear, specific queries rather than leaving gaps.

Key responsibilities:

UK statutory accounts preparation:

• Prepare year-end statutory financial statements for UK limited companies from client bookkeeping records, trial balances or accounting excel records.
• Prepare accounts under FRS 102 Section 1A (small entities).
• Produce accounts within TaxCalc Accounts Production, ensuring correct entity type, accounting framework, disclosure set and comparative figures.
• Complete full year-end control account reconciliations, including bank, VAT, PAYE/NIC, director's loan account, trade debtors and creditors, accruals, prepayments and stock.
• Prepare and post year-end journals covering depreciation, accruals and prepayments, deferred and accrued income, dividends, corporation tax provision and opening balance corrections.
• Maintain a fixed asset register and calculate depreciation in accordance with the client's stated accounting policies.
• Identify and reconcile director's loan account movements, flagging any overdrawn positions and the associated s.455 CTA 2010 and benefit-in-kind implications.
• Build and maintain a complete, cross-referenced working paper file supporting every material balance, ready for director review.
• Prepare a schedule of open queries for the client, with a clear explanation of what is required and why.
• Ensure accounts are prepared and filed within Companies House and HMRC statutory deadlines, and maintain the internal deadline tracker.

UK Self Assessment tax returns:

• Prepare individual Self Assessment tax returns (SA100) using TaxCalc, including the following supplementary pages as applicable:
– SA102 — employment income, benefits in kind and expenses;
– SA103S / SA103F — self-employment;
– SA105 — UK property, including furnished holiday lettings and the finance cost restriction under s.272A ITTOIA 2005;
– SA106 — foreign income;
– SA108 — capital gains, including residential property disposals;
– SA109 — residence and remittance basis, where relevant.
• Prepare rental accounts and property income schedules from client-supplied records.
• Prepare sole trader and partnership accounts and the resulting self-employment pages, including capital allowances computations and the correct treatment of disallowable expenditure.
• Calculate dividend and savings income, the personal allowance taper, payments on account and balancing payments, and prepare a clear tax liability summary for the client.
• Reconcile employment income to P60s, P45s and P11Ds, and pension contributions to relief-at-source or net pay arrangements.
• Prepare partnership returns (SA800) and the associated partner allocations where required.
• Track the 31 January and 31 July deadlines and escalate at-risk cases in good time.

Corporation tax:

• Prepare corporation tax computations and CT600 returns in TaxCalc, with iXBRL-tagged accounts and computations.
• Prepare capital allowances computations, including annual investment allowance, full expensing, first-year allowances, writing down allowances and the balancing adjustments on disposal.
• Identify and correctly treat disallowable expenditure, including entertaining, depreciation, non-trade items and provisions.
• Apply the correct rate of corporation tax, including marginal relief and the effect of associated companies.
• Prepare loss relief claims and note the relevant statutory basis for each.

Bookkeeping, VAT and payroll support:

• Maintain client bookkeeping in Xero, including bank reconciliations, purchase and sales ledger maintenance and receipt capture
• Prepare and reconcile quarterly VAT returns under MTD, including standard, flat rate, cash accounting and, where applicable, margin scheme and domestic reverse charge treatments.
• Support CIS processing, including subcontractor verification, monthly returns and deduction statements.
• Provide support with payroll processing and auto-enrolment pension uploads where required.

Management reporting:

• Produce periodic management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, variance analysis and short commentary.
• Prepare cash flow summaries, aged debtor and creditor reports and bespoke client reporting packs.

Practice administration and quality:
• Maintain accurate records of time and job status on the practice workflow system.
• Keep client files, working papers and correspondence filed in accordance with practice procedures.
• Draft clear, professional client emails in British English for director review.
• Keep up to date with UK GAAP, tax legislation and HMRC guidance relevant to the portfolio.
• Adhere at all times to the practice's confidentiality, data protection and anti-money laundering procedures.
