JOB OVERVIEW

We are misterdata, a small US company. We build financial reporting software for real estate companies. Our audience is CFOs and finance directors.

We are hiring one part-time video editor on a monthly retainer, long term.

Please read this whole post. The last section tells you exactly how to apply, and applications that skip it will not be read.

What the work actually is

I record the screen footage and the voiceover myself. You cut.

The first job is one flagship film of about 2 minutes 10 seconds, plus six short silent clips of 15 to 20 seconds each, all cut from a single capture session. After that, expect roughly one film plus a set of clips per month as we launch more features and more products.

The style is restrained corporate documentary. Slow push-ins on static screens. Long holds. Plain text cards. Music low under a founder voiceover. One shot in the first film is a five-second hold on a single number with no movement at all while I talk over it.

This is not YouTube editing. No fast cuts. No zoom on emphasis. No whooshes or swishes. No shake. No ---------- cutaways. No burned-in captions on everything. No retention hacks.

If your reel is built on that style, this role will frustrate you and we will not be a good fit. That is not a judgment on your skill. It is a different job, and I would rather say so now than waste your time.

In scope
Cutting the film and the clips from footage I provide
Building and maintaining reusable text card and lower third templates in our brand
Resizing one film into platform cuts (16:9, 1:1, 9:16)
Captions, export specs, thumbnails
Simple carousels and static graphics from copy I write
Scheduling and posting, if you are genuinely good at it
Permanently out of scope
Writing scripts, hooks, captions, or any claim about the product. I write every word. This is the most important line in this post and it is not negotiable.
D ---------- what we say about the product or how we say it
Access to our software, our customers, or any customer data

You will receive a written spec with exact timings and exact wording. Your job is to execute it precisely. If you think something in the spec is wrong, flag it once in writing, then execute it as written unless I tell you to change it. Editors who improve the brief without asking do not last here.

Requirements
Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. Your own licensed copy. We do not provide software.
You deliver the packaged project file with every export, not just the MP4. Organized, media linked, layers and sequences named.
Portfolio in corporate, explainer, agency, motion design, product demo, or documentary work.
Stable internet, and a plan for what happens during a brownout.
Two hours of overlap with US Eastern time on weekday mornings ET, which is evening your time, for review calls. Everything else is async.
English strong enough to read a detailed written spec and ask precise questions about it.
Pay and terms

$400 per month, paid weekly (GCash), for a part-time retainer of about 13 to 15 hours per week.

This number is fixed. I am not negotiating it. If it does not work for you, please do not apply. I would rather you found something that pays you properly than took this and left in two months.

What I am offering instead of a higher rate is stability and repeat work. There are more products and more videos coming. I want one person who learns our brand, keeps the templates, and gets faster every month, not a new freelancer every time.

Hiring process
Application, using the questions below.
I shortlist a small number of people.
Paid trial. I pay $20 for you to cut one 20-second clip from our real footage against our real spec. Everyone who completes the trial gets paid, whether or not I hire them.
Short call with the finalists.
How to apply

Start your message with the word HOLD so I know you read this far.

Then answer these five questions. Short answers are fine. I care about the content, not the length.

Send a link to one piece of corporate, explainer, product or documentary work that you edited. Tell me which parts were your decisions and which parts were given to you in a brief.
A client gives you a five-second static shot of a spreadsheet with a voiceover playing over it. The brief says no camera movement. You think it will feel slow on screen. What do you do?
Which do you use more, Premiere or After Effects? And describe how you hand a project file over to a client so they can open it and reuse it.
How many hours per week are you actually available, and what other retainers or clients do you have right now?
What is your internet speed, and what is your backup plan for power outages?

Applications that do not begin with the word HOLD will not be read.
