We are a growing Australian technology and local-media business seeking an experienced bookkeeper to maintain accurate, timely financial records in Xero.
This is a long-term, remote, full-time independent-contractor role. You will support routine bookkeeping, reconciliations, month-end preparation and clear management reporting while following documented controls. Accuracy, confidentiality and dependable follow-through are essential.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Maintain transactions, accounts and supporting documentation in Xero.
• Reconcile bank, card and payment accounts accurately and on schedule.
• Code income and expenses consistently using the agreed chart of accounts.
• Review invoices, bills, receipts, duplicates and unmatched transactions.
• Maintain accounts payable and receivable records and flag overdue items.
• Prepare month-end checklists, reconciliations and reports for management or accountant review.
• Support GST/BAS preparation by keeping records complete and identifying exceptions; any filing or final tax decision remains subject to authorised review.
• Maintain organised digital records and a clear audit trail.
• Identify discrepancies early and explain them with evidence and a recommended next step.
• Improve repeatable bookkeeping procedures without weakening financial controls.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
• Strong hands-on Xero bookkeeping experience.
• Experience supporting an Australian business, including familiarity with GST and BAS workflows.
• Excellent reconciliation skills and careful attention to detail.
• Confidence working with invoices, bills, expenses, payments and month-end processes.
• Good spreadsheet skills and clear written English.
• Sound judgement when records are incomplete, unclear or inconsistent.
• Reliable full-time availability and accurate timekeeping.
HELPFUL EXPERIENCE
• Multi-entity, digital, subscription, media or technology businesses.
• Accounts payable, accounts receivable and management reporting.
• Receipt-capture, expense-management or payment-platform integrations.
ACCESS AND SECURITY
This role will use scoped, least-privilege access after onboarding. Initial screening and any assessment will use fictional or redacted information. Never include passwords, bank details, private financial records, customer information or another client's confidential material in your application. Shortlisted applicants may be asked to sign confidentiality and intellectual-property terms before receiving scoped access.
HOW SUCCESS WILL BE MEASURED
• Reconciliations are complete, accurate and on time.
• Transactions are coded consistently with supporting evidence.
• Exceptions and missing information are raised early.
• Month-end records require minimal correction.
• Financial information remains confidential and auditable.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply through this platform with a short introduction, your CV or work history, your hourly rate within the advertised range, your weekly availability, and brief answers to the three questions below. Please keep each answer to 2–4 sentences. Generic applications that do not answer the questions will not be considered.
1. Describe your recent Xero bookkeeping work for an Australian business. Which tasks did you personally complete each week or month?
2. A bank reconciliation contains an old unmatched payment and a possible duplicate expense. How would you investigate and document both issues?
3. What are the essential checks in a reliable month-end bookkeeping close before records go to management or an accountant?
PAID ASSESSMENT
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to a paid, time-boxed bookkeeping exercise using fictional or redacted transactions. You will reconcile a small account, identify exceptions and provide a concise handover note. No live bank account or production credentials are required.
We offer long-term work, competitive Philippine-market bookkeeping rates, clear procedures, respectful collaboration and the opportunity to build reliable financial operations for a growing Australian business.
