We are a growing Australian technology and local-media company building a long-term remote team in the Philippines. We are hiring two researchers to verify whether local-news content is accurate, current, properly sourced and relevant to the city in which it appears.
This is a remote, part-time independent-contractor position starting at approximately 20–30 hours per week. Successful candidates will begin with a two-week paid trial. No privileged system access is required; work uses public research and review tools.
THE ROLE
You will investigate claims using authoritative sources and document what is verified, contradicted, outdated or still uncertain. This is not a high-volume rewriting position.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Verify names, dates, statistics, quotations, locations and event status.
• Prioritise government, primary and authoritative local sources.
• Check whether a story genuinely belongs to the stated city.
• Record supporting links and the date each source was checked.
• Distinguish verified facts, conflicting evidence and unresolved uncertainty.
• Escalate sensitive or potentially harmful claims rather than guessing.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
• Strong web-research and fact-checking skills.
• Excellent written English and concise evidence-based reporting.
• Good judgement about source authority, freshness and independence.
• Care with geographic details and local relevance.
• Journalism, research, verification or editorial experience is helpful.
HOW SUCCESS WILL BE MEASURED
• Accurate verification supported by credible sources.
• Clear separation of facts, contradictions and uncertainty.
• Strong detection of geographic or locality mismatches.
• Well-documented escalations of uncertain content.

PAID TEST
Shortlisted applicants may be invited to a short paid test: verify a small set of claims using public sources, record the evidence, identify one unresolved uncertainty and write a concise recommendation.
