ABOUT THE ROLE
Modubuild is an Australian prefabricated and modular building business.
We are looking for an experienced Architectural Drafter or Construction Draftsperson who can turn detailed hand sketches into accurate, scaled 2D drawings for client proposals.
This is intended to become a long-term, full-time remote role. It is not a one-off freelance drawing job.
The successful applicant will initially focus on producing accurate client presentation drawings. After training, the role will expand into quantity take-offs, estimating, construction documentation, engineering coordination and ordering.
THE WORK
You will:
• Convert detailed hand sketches into clear, accurately scaled building drawings.
• Produce drawings suitable for inclusion in client quotations and sharing with engineers.
• Show dimensions, module divisions, room layouts, doors, windows, fixtures, electrical points, plumbing items, construction notes and schedules as required.
• Follow our documented drawing procedure and complete a detailed checklist before submitting work.
• Identify missing, conflicting or unclear information before completing the drawing.
• Make revisions accurately and promptly.
• Complete quantity take-offs and enter quantities into our pre-populated Excel pricing tool.
• Learn our documented ordering procedures.
• Over time, help coordinate drawing information between our team, structural expert, external engineer and wall-frame manufacturer.
• Help improve templates, checklists and standard drawing details as our systems develop.
OUR BUILDINGS
Our building methods and materials will vary.
Our current system generally includes:
• A fabricated steel base.
• Steel wall and ceiling frames.
• Metal external cladding.
• 3.6 mm poly plywood internal wall linings.
• Doors, windows, flooring and internal fixtures.
• Electrical, lighting, air-conditioning and data requirements.
• Plumbing, toilets, showers and amenities in some buildings.
You do not need to know our exact system when you commence. We will provide training, procedures, examples and checklists.
However, you must already understand how buildings are put together and be able to learn new construction systems quickly.
WHO THIS ROLE SUITS
This role will suit someone with practical experience in one or more of the following:
• Architectural or construction drafting.
• Building-services drafting.
• Civil, structural or construction engineering support.
• Modular or prefabricated buildings.
• Steel-framed construction.
• Construction estimating and quantity take-offs.
• Electrical and plumbing layouts.
• Shop drawings or manufacturing documentation.
Formal qualifications are helpful but not essential. Practical ability, construction understanding and attention to detail are more important.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
You must have:
• Strong spoken and written English.
• Experience producing accurate, scaled construction or architectural drawings.
• A practical understanding of building construction.
• Very strong attention to detail.
• The discipline to follow procedures and checklists consistently.
• The ability to identify missing or conflicting information rather than guessing.
• Experience using Excel.
• Reliable internet, computer equipment and a suitable remote working environment.
• Availability for at least six hours of overlap with Sydney/Bathurst business hours, AEST or AEDT.
• The ability to respond quickly during agreed working hours.
• A willingness to learn from corrections and avoid repeating the same mistakes.
We are flexible about drawing software. You may use AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Archicad or another suitable program, provided the finished drawing is accurate, to scale, presentable and easy to revise.
This is primarily an accurate 2D construction-drawing role. It is not mainly a 3D rendering, graphic-design or creative concept-design position.
WORKING ARRANGEMENT
• Long-term remote contractor role.
• Intended to progress to 40 hours per week.
• The initial paid training and assessment period may begin at approximately 20–30 hours per week.
• Applicants must be ready to move to full-time hours as the workload increases.
• Most client proposals need to be returned within one business day, so reliability and responsiveness are essential.
• This will not be suitable as a side job once the position becomes full-time.
SALARY
USD $1,300–$2,000 per month, depending on demonstrated experience and capability.
SELECTION PROCESS
Shortlisted applicants will:
1. Attend a video interview.
2. Explain examples of their previous drawing work.
3. Complete a paid practical assessment using a hand sketch and sample building information.
4. Explain how they checked their work and identified missing or conflicting information.
HOW TO APPLY
Begin your application with the words: MODULAR BUILDING
Then answer each of the following questions:
1. How many years of architectural, construction or building-services drafting experience do you have?
2. What types of buildings or construction systems have you worked with?
3. Provide links to two relevant examples of your work. Redacted or anonymised samples are acceptable. Explain exactly what you personally completed.
4. Describe one occasion when you found an error, conflict or missing detail in a drawing or project brief before it caused a problem.
5. What experience do you have with quantity take-offs, estimating, Excel, electrical layouts or plumbing layouts?
6. Which drawing programs do you use, and which do you use most confidently?
7. State the Philippine hours during which you can work and confirm whether you can provide at least six hours of overlap with Australian business hours.
8. Confirm your expected monthly salary and earliest available starting date.
Generic applications or applications that do not answer these questions will not progress.
