The Accounting Manager will own the company’s recurring accounting processes and oversee the work of a bookkeeper or other accounting support professional. This is not primarily a bookkeeping position. The successful candidate must be able to independently manage the monthly close, prepare financial reports, review account reconciliations, identify accounting issues, improve processes, and ensure the integrity of the general ledger.
This is a long-term opportunity to work directly with a US-based CFO and help build a scalable, high-performing finance function.
Key Responsibilities:
• Own and manage the monthly accounting close process, including the close calendar, checklist, journal entries, financial statements, and supporting schedules.
• Review financial results for accuracy, completeness, unusual activity, and proper cutoff.
• Prepare management reporting packages and budget-to-actual and period-over-period variance analyses.
• Prepare or review monthly balance-sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.
• Maintain schedules for accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, debt, payroll-related accounts, and other significant balances.
• Review the general ledger for errors, misclassifications, duplicate transactions, and unusual activity.
• Ensure transactions are recorded in the correct entity, location, service line, department, and accounting period.
• Oversee and review the work of a bookkeeper or other accounting support professional.
• Review bank, credit-card, accounts-payable, payroll, and other recurring reconciliations.
• Assist in reviewing payroll runs for completeness and accuracy before final processing.
• Document and improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and recurring workflows.
• Identify opportunities to automate and simplify accounting processes and improve the speed and consistency of the monthly close.
• Lead the year-end financial statement audit or review in coordination with the company’s outside accounting firm.
• Prepare audit and review schedules, supporting documentation, and responses to information requests.
• Coordinate with payroll, billing, operations, tax advisors, and other internal and external partners.
• Work directly with the CFO on accounting priorities, financial reporting, and special projects.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least seven years of progressive accounting experience.
• At least two years in an Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor, Assistant Controller, or comparable role.
• Significant experience supporting US-based companies or US accounting clients.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accrual-basis accounting.
• Demonstrated ownership of a monthly close process.
• Strong experience preparing and reviewing balance-sheet reconciliations.
• Strong financial-statement preparation experience.
• Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience supervising or reviewing the work of bookkeepers or junior accountants.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and communicate issues proactively.
• Reliable high-speed internet and a professional remote-work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• CPA designation preferred but not required for an otherwise exceptional candidate.
• Accounting experience in healthcare, preferably home health, hospice, home care, or another multi-location healthcare services organization.
• Experience with multiple legal entities, locations, departments, or business lines.
• Experience with payroll accounting, revenue recognition, intercompany transactions, and consolidations.
• Experience leading or substantially supporting a US financial statement audit or review.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Reach Reporting, or similar reporting tools.
• Advanced understanding of Microsoft Copilot and its practical application in accounting, reporting, analysis, and process improvement.
• Experience working directly with a US Controller or CFO.
• Experience improving or accelerating a month-end close.
• Experience working in a growing, privately owned company.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week role requiring approximately three to four hours of daily overlap with US business hours.
Compensation and Engagement Structure:
• The monthly independent-contractor fee for this role is ?125,000–?165,000, depending on experience and qualifications, with eligibility for performance-based bonuses.
• Candidates with strong US accounting management experience, audit leadership, healthcare experience, and demonstrated process-improvement capability will be considered toward the upper end of the range.
What Success Looks Like:
• During the first several months, the Accounting Manager will be expected to:
• Establish a reliable and disciplined monthly close.
• Strengthen accounting controls and process documentation.
