Job Scorecard — Paid Media Manager
Mission
The purpose of this role is to run and scale paid media across our client accounts (typically $500K–$5M/month in ad spend) — hitting efficient cost-per-purchase and LTV:CAC targets, scaling budget without losing efficiency, and giving clients clear visibility into what's working and why.
Outcomes
Efficient Acquisition — KPI is Cost Per Purchase / CAC, measured via platform data plus an attribution tool, targeting meets-or-beats the client-specific CAC target, reviewed weekly.
Profitable Scaling — KPI is LTV:CAC ratio, measured via client data plus attribution tool, targeting 3:1 minimum and 4:1+ preferred blended, reviewed monthly.
Budget Pacing — KPI is spend vs. planned budget, measured via platform dashboards, targeting 100% of planned spend deployed with no under- or over-pacing, reviewed weekly.
Creative Velocity — KPI is new creative tested, measured via Ads Manager or a testing tracker, targeting fresh creative in rotation every week with no stale-ad fatigue, reviewed weekly.
Client Communication — KPI is reporting delivered, measured via ClickUp or a client reporting doc, targeting one performance report per client per week, on time, reviewed weekly.
Key Responsibilities
Channel Budget Allocation: Set and adjust spend splits across Meta, Google, and TikTok (and any test channels) based on real performance data, not a fixed formula.
Campaign Optimization: Monitor and optimize live campaigns daily — bids, audiences, placements, exclusions — to protect CAC as spend scales.
Creative Testing: Run a consistent testing cadence for new ad concepts/hooks; kill underperformers fast, scale winners deliberately.
Attribution & Reporting: Track cost-per-purchase, ROAS, and LTV:CAC per channel and per client; flag when a channel or campaign is bleeding money before it becomes a bigger problem.
Scaling Discipline: Know the difference between healthy scaling and just throwing more budget at diminishing returns.
Client Communication: Explain performance and recommendations in plain language — clients need to understand the "why," not just see a dashboard.
Self-Sufficiency: Operate independently day-to-day; flag issues or budget risks rather than needing routine oversight or approval.
Key Competencies
Platform Fluency: Deep hands-on experience in Meta Ads Manager and Google Ads at minimum; TikTok Ads Manager a strong plus.
Numbers Literacy: Comfortable with CAC, LTV:CAC, ROAS, contribution margin — not just revenue-level metrics.
Judgment Under Ambiguity: Can read performance data and make a scaling/cutting call without waiting to be told what to do.
Creative Testing Rigor: Understands ad fatigue, frequency, and why testing velocity matters more than any single "perfect" ad.
Client-Facing Communication: Can translate performance data into a clear, non-jargon explanation for a client.
Autonomy: Can manage day-to-day budget and optimization decisions without needing regular check-ins or approvals.
Tools Used
Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, TikTok Ads Manager, an attribution/analytics tool (e.g. Triple Whale, Northbeam, or platform-native), Google Sheets/Excel, ClickUp (reporting & task management), Slack (client + team communication).
Job Description
Who We're Looking For
A Paid Media Manager who's actually run ecommerce ad accounts at meaningful spend — not just managed a small budget for one brand. You should have real opinions on channel mix, CAC targets, and where money gets wasted, backed by actual experience, not theory.
Full-Time Only: This is a full-time role (40 hrs/week). We are not considering candidates who are part-time or who work other clients on the side.
Remote Position: Fully remote.
Qualities: Sharp with numbers, decisive, self-sufficient, and able to explain your reasoning clearly to a client who isn't a media buyer themselves.
A Note on AI Use in This Application: Don't use Claude or any other AI tool to answer the screening questions below — we want your actual answers, not AI's. If it looks AI-written, you're out.
Responsibilities
Set and adjust channel budget splits across Meta, Google, TikTok (and test channels) based on live performance.
Optimize active campaigns daily to protect and improve cost-per-purchase as spend scales.
Run ongoing creative testing and know when to kill vs. scale a concept.
Track and report CAC, ROAS, and LTV:CAC per channel and per client, weekly.
Flag underperforming spend or budget risk before it compounds.
Communicate performance and recommendations to clients in plain language.
Work independently; flag issues as they come up rather than waiting for review.
Experience
Proven experience managing paid media for ecommerce accounts at $500K+/month in spend.
Track record of hitting or improving CAC and LTV:CAC targets — be ready to talk numbers, not just describe process.
Deep hands-on experience with Meta Ads Manager and Google Ads; TikTok Ads Manager a plus.
Experience with an attribution/analytics tool (Triple Whale, Northbeam, or similar).
Comfortable presenting performance data directly to clients.
How We Will Help You Succeed
Established client relationships and account history to build from.
Clear reporting cadence so feedback happens weekly, not through constant oversight.
Access to creative production (video editing, design) so you're not blocked waiting on assets.
Room to make real budget and strategy calls — this isn't a "follow the playbook" role.
Time Expectations
This is a full-time role, 40 hours/week, broken down as:
Campaign monitoring & optimization (all channels) — ongoing, daily, highest priority — ~15 hrs/week
Budget allocation & pacing review — ~5 hrs/week
Creative testing setup & review — ~8 hrs/week
Attribution & performance reporting — ~6 hrs/week
Client communication — ~6 hrs/week
That totals 40 hrs/week.
Interview / Screening Questions
Note to Candidates: Answer these in your own words — no Claude, ChatGPT, or other AI. We can tell, and it'll disqualify you.
If you were handed a $1M/month ecommerce ad account today, how would you split budget across channels, and why? Where have you personally seen the most efficient cost-per-purchase across accounts you've run?
What LTV:CAC ratio do you consider healthy for ecommerce, and where have you actually seen accounts losing money vs. making money — be specific, not theoretical.
Walk me through a time you had to d
How do you approach creative testing — cadence, what you test for, when you kill an ad vs. let it keep running?
Describe a time a client pushed back on your recommendation. How did you handle it?
What's your process for catching a campaign that's quietly bleeding money before it shows up as a big problem in the monthly report?
Which attribution/analytics tools have you used, and how do you handle disagreements between platform-reported ROAS and what the attribution tool says?
Can you confirm you're available full-time and not currently juggling other clients or part-time work?
Tell me about the largest monthly ad spend account you've personally managed, and what your CAC/LTV results looked like.
How do you prefer to receive feedback — frequent check-ins, or comfortable working with occasional (weekly or bi-weekly) reviews?
