2. Research Analyst — Target List Building

Remote (Philippines) · Full-time · $700–1,200 USD per month

About us:

Guidesource is a UK-based deal origination and market intelligence firm. We work behind the scenes for M&A advisory firms and acquisitive companies, identifying businesses that might be open to a sale. Our research team sits in the Philippines and works as part of the core business.

The role

This is the first step in everything we do. A client gives us criteria — a sector, a region, a size band, a type of owner — and you build the list of companies that genuinely fit.

It's more judgement than data entry. Two companies can look identical in a database and only one is worth approaching, because the other was bought by a private equity house last year. Working out which is which is the job.

What you'll do:

Build target company lists from Valu8, Inven, Companies House and other data sources
Apply client criteria: sector, SIC code, region, revenue and headcount bands, ownership type
Screen out companies that don't fit — already acquired, too large, wrong region, already on another client's list
Check every list against our master tracker so we never approach the same company twice under different mandates
Explain your reasoning: when you exclude something borderline, we need to know why
Hand finished lists to the enrichment team

What we're looking for:

Experience building target lists for a private equity firm, M&A advisory practice or corporate finance team. This is the single thing we care most about
Excellent written and spoken English. You'll be on calls with the UK team and writing up your reasoning
Strong analytical thinking — you should enjoy working out why a rule doesn't quite fit a case
Confident in Google Sheets or Excel: filtering, deduplication, lookups
Someone who asks a question when a brief is ambiguous rather than guessing

Nice to have:

Understanding of UK company structures or Companies House data
Experience with Valu8, Inven, Bureau van Dijk, Endole, PitchBook or similar
Sector experience in healthcare, business services or technology
Details
Full-time, 40 hours per week, Philippine business hours
$700–1,200 USD per month depending on experience
Paid monthly, long-term contract, performance reviews at 3 and 12 months
Fully remote
