To be considered, you must include the following information in your application:
1. Your Ready-to-Review Portfolio
Please attach or link your portfolio showcasing your structural steel shop drawings.
Include examples of General Arrangement (GA) drawings, assembly/fabrication drawings, and connection details. Applications without a portfolio will not be reviewed.
2. Australian Client Experience
Specify your exact years of experience working directly with Australian clients and local construction projects.
3. Please list your level of experience (e.g., No experience, Intermediate, Expert) and how you have used the following tools in your previous roles:
- Autodesk Revit (Specifically for structural steel detailing, connections, and documentation)
- Bills of Materials (BOM) Tools (Generating accurate material lists from models)
- Other Detailing Software (e.g., Tekla Structures, Advance Steel, AutoCAD)
I am looking for an experienced Structural Steel Detailer / Shop Drawing Draftsperson who can step in and immediately produce fabrication-ready structural steel shop drawings.
This is not a general architectural drafting or BIM modeling role. I need someone who has personally delivered detailed structural steel drawings that went straight to a fabricator or manufacturer for production and erection. Our focus is primarily on large-scale industrial warehouses, commercial buildings, retail spaces, and precast/tilt-panel projects. If your background is strictly residential or conceptual, this will not be the right fit.
What You Will Do
* Deliver Shop Drawings: Produce highly detailed structural steel shop drawings, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
* Handle the Technical Details: Interpret engineering drawings to accurately detail dimensions, connections, and welding symbols using Autodesk Revit.
* Coordinate & Solve Issues: Drive the project forward by catching clashes and missing details early, writing RFIs, collaborating with our engineers and fabricators, and ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and the National Construction Code (NCC).
What You Must Bring
- Proven Fabrication Experience: Real, hands-on experience creating drawings that steel fabricators have actually built from.
- Commercial/Industrial Project History: A solid portfolio of large industrial warehouses, commercial builds, and heavy structural steel.
- Advanced Revit Skills: You must be highly proficient in Autodesk Revit, specifically using it to generate precise structural documentation, not just general models.
- Deep Fabrication & Local Knowledge: A strong grasp of steel fabrication processes, erection methodologies, and structural steel conventions. Familiarity with Australian construction projects, Australian Standards (AS 4100), and the NCC is highly desirable.
