Healthcare SEO Strategist (Mid-Level to Senior)

Direct Medical or Healthcare SEO Experience Required

Work arrangement: Long-term remote contractor Starting workload: Approximately 10–40 hours per month starting

Starting compensation: $8.14–$12.21 per hour w/ potential immediate increase (keep reading below for details)
Location: Philippines Schedule: Flexible, with negotiable Pacific Time overlap

About the Opportunity
This is not an entry-level SEO position.

MedGains is a U.S.-based, clinician-founded healthcare marketing agency. We help patient-facing and B2B healthcare organizations strengthen visibility, authority, and growth through SEO, content, local search, and emerging AI-driven discovery.

Direct, verifiable experience developing and managing SEO campaigns for healthcare, medical, health-technology, or clinically focused organizations is required.

The selected strategist will begin with responsibility for one active U.S. healthcare SEO campaign. As strong performance is demonstrated and MedGains adds new clients, additional healthcare campaigns and approved working hours may be assigned.

Our intention is to develop a long-term relationship with someone who can gradually become a central part of MedGains’ healthcare search operations.

About MedGains
Healthcare marketing should begin with understanding healthcare.

MedGains was founded by a licensed Respiratory Therapist with experience across hospitals, critical care, pediatric and adult settings, sleep medicine, and home healthcare.

While continuing his clinical career, he also invested in healthcare startups, supported their business-development efforts, and helped market their technologies to difficult-to-reach prospects including hospitals, medical practices, healthcare executives, and other key decision-makers.

That combination of clinical experience, healthcare operations, entrepreneurship, business development, and marketing strategy shapes how MedGains approaches every campaign.

We do not begin by asking only:

“What keywords should this organization rank for?”

We ask:

How does this healthcare organization actually grow?
Who is searching—patients, clinicians, administrators, referral partners, or business buyers?
What information do they need before making a decision?
What have competitors and current search results overlooked?
How can the organization become a trusted authority rather than simply another search result?

Our principle is simple:

Understanding first. Marketing second.
What You Will Own
You will help lead the strategic direction, execution planning, quality, and performance of healthcare SEO campaigns.

Your responsibilities may include:

Researching healthcare markets, services, audiences, competitors, and search behavior
Developing keyword, topic, search-intent, content, and site-architecture strategies
Building prioritized SEO roadmaps and monthly action plans
Recommending service pages, location pages, content clusters, and supporting resources
Reviewing existing pages and identifying content gaps
Creating or directing SEO content briefs and outlines
Improving on-page SEO, internal linking, metadata, and topical authority
Identifying technical issues involving crawling, indexing, site structure, duplicate content, performance, canonicals, schema, and internal links
Guiding local SEO, Google Business Profile, citations, reviews, directories, and location visibility
Identifying healthcare associations, directories, publications, partnerships, and authority-building opportunities
Monitoring Google AI experiences, answer engines, generative search, entity signals, brand mentions, and structured information
Tracking rankings, organic visibility, traffic, leads, and other meaningful outcomes
Investigating performance changes and adjusting the strategy based on evidence
Clearly communicating priorities, findings, and recommendations

Depending on campaign needs, implementation may involve writers, developers, technical SEO specialists, outreach resources, or other contributors.

You must understand how the complete SEO action plan fits together, what resources are needed, how contributors should be directed, and whether the completed work meets the required standard.
Required Healthcare SEO Experience
Applicants without direct healthcare or medical SEO experience will not be considered.

Your experience should include work with one or more healthcare business models, such as:

Physician practices or specialty clinics
Dental or dental-specialty organizations
Home health, home care, hospice, or senior care
Physical therapy, rehabilitation, chiropractic, or wellness
Sleep medicine
Medical transportation
Medical devices or diagnostics
Healthcare SaaS
Digital health or health technology
Healthcare e-commerce or clinically focused products

You do not need experience in every category.

We strongly value candidates who understand both:

Patient-facing healthcare SEO
B2B healthcare SEO for products, devices, diagnostics, software, or health technology

Experience serving U.S. healthcare clients is strongly preferred.

Exceptional candidates who have successfully managed healthcare SEO campaigns within other countries will also be considered when they can demonstrate measurable outcomes, strong strategic thinking, and the ability to learn the U.S. healthcare market.
What You Must Bring
Proven experience developing healthcare SEO strategies
Healthcare case studies, websites, or portfolio examples
Strong technical SEO knowledge
Strong content and topical-authority strategy experience
Experience with local SEO and authority building
Experience coordinating or managing a complete SEO action plan
Strong knowledge of Semrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, GA4, or comparable tools
Understanding of healthcare trust, clinical accuracy, and content sensitivities
Excellent written and spoken English
Strong communication and independent judgment
The ability to explain why a strategy is being recommended
A willingness to question assumptions and contribute ideas rather than simply follow instructions
Who Will Thrive in This Role
You will likely thrive at MedGains if you:

Ask thoughtful questions before recommending tactics
Enjoy researching complex healthcare markets
Care about business outcomes rather than completed task counts
Identify problems and opportunities proactively
Investigate unfamiliar healthcare subjects instead of making assumptions
Can respectfully challenge an idea when you see a stronger direction
Welcome direct and thoughtful feedback
Want to deepen your expertise in traditional SEO and AI-driven search
Want your thinking to influence how a growing healthcare agency develops its standards

This role is not suitable for someone who relies on generic templates, surface-level research, automated content without meaningful review, or the same SEO formula for every healthcare client.
Hours and Compensation
The position will begin on an hourly contractor basis with responsibility for one active healthcare SEO campaign.

The starting workload is expected to be approximately 10–30 approved hours per month depending on first wave of SEO campaigns.

A note on hours: the first month of a new campaign is setup-heavy such as the audit, Google Business Profile work, core service and location pages, and initial research. So hours will run toward the top of that range early on. Once the foundational work is complete, monthly hours on a single campaign may settle somewhat before growing again as additional clients are assigned.

Actual weekly hours may vary depending on campaign priorities, deadlines, meetings, and how the strategist organizes and performs the work.

Starting compensation is $8.14–$12.21 per hour, based on:

Direct healthcare SEO experience
Strategic capabilities
Demonstrated campaign results
Communication skills
Technical knowledge
Level of responsibility
Work personally performed

Exceptional candidates with extensive healthcare SEO leadership, U.S. healthcare campaign experience, or proven medical-device and healthcare SaaS results may be considered above the posted range.

The initial campaign will have a maximum allowance of 40 approved hours per month. Any hours beyond that limit must be discussed and approved by MedGains in advance.
Schedule and Availability
Some availability during Pacific Time is preferred for communication, collaboration, and occasional meetings.

However, the schedule is not intended to be a strict daily shift.

MedGains is willing to discuss and negotiate a reasonable overnight or early-morning schedule with the selected candidate during the interview process.

The exact availability window may vary depending on:

The candidate’s existing schedule
Campaign requirements
Client meetings
Deadlines
Communication needs
The number of assigned campaigns

Much of the strategist’s work may be completed independently, provided communication remains dependable and agreed deadlines are met.
Growth Opportunity
The selected strategist will initially manage one healthcare SEO campaign.

As they demonstrate:

Strong strategic judgment
Dependable communication
Quality execution
Efficient use of approved hours
Clear reporting
Measurable campaign progress
The ability to coordinate supporting contributors

Additional MedGains healthcare SEO clients may be assigned.

This will allow the strategist’s approved hours, monthly earnings, responsibilities, and influence within MedGains to grow.

Once the strategist is successfully managing approximately three steady SEO campaigns, the hourly contractor arrangement may transition into a fixed monthly contractor retainer.

The monthly compensation will be based on the number and complexity of assigned campaigns, demonstrated performance, and level of strategic ownership.
How to Apply
Please include all of the following in your application:

A brief explanation of your direct healthcare or medical SEO experience
The healthcare sectors you have worked in
One healthcare SEO campaign you are most proud of
The strategy you developed for that campaign
The measurable results achieved
Links to relevant websites, case studies, reports, or portfolio examples
Your experience with medical devices, diagnostics, healthcare SaaS, digital health, or other B2B healthcare companies
The SEO tools you regularly use
Your requested hourly rate within the posted range
Your approximate monthly availability
Your preferred working hours and ability to provide some Pacific Time overlap

Begin the subject line of your application with:

HEALTHCARE SEARCH STRATEGIST

Applications without direct healthcare SEO examples or evidence will not be considered.

We are not looking for someone to quietly complete assignments.

We are looking for a serious healthcare SEO strategist who wants to contribute ideas, strengthen campaigns, grow with the agency, and help shape the future of healthcare search at MedGains.
