We are looking for someone who can build complete brochure websites for small service businesses such as painters, electricians, plumbers, joiners and other trades.
This is not a software engineering role. The focus is on producing clear, professional and well-structured websites from start to finish.
Must-have skills:
Strong HTML and CSS
Working knowledge of JavaScript
Comfortable working in VS Code
Comfortable using GitHub for repositories, commits and version control
Comfortable deploying and managing websites through Netlify
Figma design experience, with examples
Copywriting experience, with examples
Experience planning website page structure
Good visual judgement and attention to detail
Ability to select and organise suitable images
Basic understanding of SEO and local SEO
Strong written English
Ability to test websites and identify mistakes before delivery
Ability to follow an existing system and work independently
What the role involves:
Planning the pages and structure of each website

Turning rough client information into clear website copy
Organising content into logical page sections
Choosing suitable layouts and reusable components
Customising HTML, CSS and JavaScript
Designing pages in Figma where required
Selecting, editing and placing images
Building service pages, location pages, project pages and contact pages
Applying basic on-page SEO and local SEO
Creating clear calls to action throughout the site
Managing site files and repositories through VS Code and GitHub
Deploying websites through Netlify
Troubleshooting build, deployment and layout issues
Checking mobile responsiveness, links, forms, spelling and consistency
Completing a full quality check before delivery
Delivering finished websites to a professional standard
How we work:
All websites are hand-coded static sites built using an existing starter kit and reusable component system.
You will usually be provided with:
A client questionnaire
Existing business information
Design references
Brand assets
A starter codebase
Reusable website components
Clear documentation and examples
You will be expected to turn this information into a complete finished website.
Experience with LESS, Eleventy and Nunjucks is useful, but not essential if you are willing and able to learn.
Important
You must be comfortable taking ownership of the full website production process.
This role is not limited to coding from a completed design or inserting copy supplied by someone else. You must be able to make sensible decisions about structure, copy, images, layout, SEO and presentation
.
You should be able to notice problems without waiting for them to be pointed out and check your own work thoroughly before submitting it.
