About Spark Xplorer
Spark Xplorer is a K–12 tutoring program supporting U.S.-based scholars with personalized, one-on-one and small-group learning. We currently have an established team of tutors, and we're now growing our global tutor network by recruiting a small, high-quality cohort of tutors based in the Philippines. This is a chance to get in early on a program that rewards strong performance with more hours as it scales.
About the Role
We're looking for qualified, reliable, and engaging online tutors to teach U.S. K–12 scholars in Math, English Language Arts (ELA), and/or Science. You'll work alongside our existing tutor team as part of one Spark Xplorer Global Tutor Network, delivering sessions aligned to each scholar's personalized learning plan.
We're hiring across a few different profiles — you don't need to fit all of them:
K–5 Elementary — Math and ELA
Grades 6–8 — Math and/or ELA
Grades 6–12 — Math
Grades 6–12 — Science or another high-demand specialist subject
Tutors who can competently teach multiple subjects or grade levels are especially valued.
What You'll Do
Deliver online tutoring sessions to U.S. K–12 scholars following Spark Xplorer's personalized curriculum and weekly learning plans
Explain concepts clearly, adapt your teaching style to each student, and keep sessions engaging
Track and report on session progress using Spark Xplorer's systems and approved tools
Maintain professional, appropriate communication with minors and their parents at all times
Complete required training, assessments, and ongoing performance check-ins
What We're Looking For
Strong spoken and written English, with clear and easily understandable communication
Experience teaching or tutoring K–12 students (online tutoring experience is a plus)
Comfort with U.S.-based students; familiarity with U.S. curriculum/Common Core is an advantage but not required — strong subject knowledge and teaching ability matter most, and we provide training
Experience working with children, and genuine enjoyment of teaching them
Reliable internet connection, a functional computer with working camera/microphone, and a quiet, professional teaching space
Backup internet and backup power arrangements (recommended, given regional outages)
Availability during U.S. teaching hours
Comfortable using video conferencing, screen sharing, digital whiteboards, Google Docs, and online learning platforms
Prior experience with Zoom-based tutoring, ESL instruction, or Math/Science tutoring is a plus.
Compensation & Engagement
Pay: Approximately $5–$7 per teaching hour, based on subject certification and experience
Tutors join our available tutor pool; hours are not fixed initially and grow based on scholar demand, availability, and performance
A 60-day initial review period applies to new tutors, starting with a limited caseload
High-performing tutors receive priority for additional sessions and hours as demand grows
Application Process
This is a multi-stage process to ensure a strong fit for our scholars:
Application form — background, education, experience, availability, and expected rate
Document submission — CV/resume, government-issued ID, relevant certificates, a short introductory video, an internet speed test, and professional references
Initial screening — HR review of qualifications, communication, and overall fit
Assessments — spoken English & instructional communication, subject knowledge test, and a short teaching audition
Vetting — identity verification, education/employment verification, reference checks, and a criminal background check (required, as this role involves working directly with minors)
Training & certification — completion of Spark Xplorer's tutor training program and final assessment
Only candidates who successfully complete all vetting and certification steps will be onboarded as Spark Xplorer Certified Tutors.
