Job Description: Graphic Designer – Book Design & Author Branding

Location: Remote (WFH)
Type: Part-Time Freelance (Project-Based, Hourly)
Confidentiality: High (Non-Disclosure Agreement Required)

Role Overview
We're building a talent pool of Graphic Designers who specialize in book interior design and layout. You'll design book covers, interior layouts, and possibly full author branding packages. This is a project-based role paid on an hourly basis starting at roughly one book a month, with volume increasing as needed. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, a signed NDA is mandatory, and use of AI tools on client materials is prohibited under a signed addendum.

Key Responsibilities
Book Cover Design: Design and present 3 cover concepts per title within 1 week of receiving the brief; revise until the client is satisfied.

Book Interior Layout: Design and format book interiors in InDesign using character styles and paragraph styles.

Proof Rounds: Before proceeding to full interior design, deliver proofs of key page designs for client approval — title page, table of contents, a chapter title page, and a text spread including a pullout quote.

Turnaround: Full book layout completed within 2 weeks of brief/content handoff.

Revisions: Incorporate client feedback and handle revision rounds efficiently.

File Management: Deliver print-ready and organized files via Dropbox.

Compensation & Work Structure
Rate: $5–7/hour
Volume: Starting at 1 book/month, with potential to scale up
Project-Based: Talent pool model. Engagement occurs on a per-project basis
Flexible Remote Work: Work from your own space while coordinating with an international team.

Required Skills & Qualifications
InDesign Expert: High-level proficiency — character styles, paragraph styles, master pages, and long-document formatting are non-negotiable.

Book Design Portfolio: Strong portfolio demonstrating book cover and interior layout work.

Branding Experience: Proven experience designing branding and marketing collateral.

Print Knowledge: Familiarity with print-ready file prep including bleeds, margins, and color profiles.

Remote Setup: Access to a high-performance computer and reliable internet.

Discretion: Total commitment to maintaining confidentiality and protecting client data.

No AI Tools: Client work must be produced without AI-assisted design, image generation, or content tools.

Nice To Have but not required
Author Branding: Build out branding packages including logos, business cards, brochures, posters, banners, and social media templates.

Social Media Graphics: Design static posts and graphics for author promotion across platforms.

Website design experience using Figma

Experience designing for self-published or indie authors
