JOB OVERVIEW

About the Role

International Business Times UK is seeking an experienced and dependable Weekend Editor to oversee editorial operations during the weekend, ensuring timely, accurate, and engaging news coverage across our digital platforms.

The successful candidate will be responsible for editing and publishing breaking news, coordinating with writers, maintaining editorial standards, and ensuring continuous newsroom coverage throughout the weekend. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced digital newsroom and can make sound editorial decisions under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee editorial operations during weekend shifts.
Edit, proofread, fact-check, and publish articles submitted by staff writers and contributors.
Assign stories and coordinate with writers to ensure timely coverage of breaking and trending news.
Write a minimum of 20 news articles per month.
Monitor UK and global news developments to identify high-impact publishing opportunities.
Ensure all published content meets editorial, legal, style, and SEO standards.
Optimize headlines, metadata, and article structure to maximize audience reach and engagement.
Maintain the quality, accuracy, and consistency of all published content.
Coordinate with the Managing Editor regarding major news developments and editorial priorities.
Provide editorial feedback and guidance to writers to improve content quality and productivity.

Requirements:

At least 2 years of experience in journalism, digital publishing, or news editing.
Excellent copy-editing, proofreading, and fact-checking skills.
Strong knowledge of UK news, current affairs, and breaking news coverage.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Familiarity with SEO best practices and audience growth strategies.
Experience using content management systems (CMS), such as WordPress, is an advantage.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a remote editorial team.

Work Schedule:

Weekend Team only (Saturday and Sunday).
Shift: 12:00 AM – 8:00 PM Philippine Time (PHT).
Must be available to monitor, edit, and publish breaking news throughout the assigned shift.
Flexibility to extend coverage during major breaking news events when necessary.
