Mechanical Estimator with CAD Drafting Skills (Remote | Australian Engineering Company)

We're an Australian engineering company looking for an experienced Mechanical Estimator with strong CAD Drafting skills to join our growing team.

This is a long-term, work-from-home opportunity for someone who enjoys producing high-quality mechanical and fabrication drawings while supporting estimating and quotation activities for industrial projects.

If you're highly proficient in Autodesk Inventor, particularly in sheet metal design, fabrication, and materials handling equipment, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing
Mechanical Drafting
Produce detailed mechanical and fabrication drawings from engineering sketches, concepts, and project specifications.
Prepare:
General Arrangement (GA) Drawings
Fabrication Drawings
Assembly Drawings
Detailed Component Drawings
Design and modify conveyors, chutes, hoppers, platforms, walkways, and other materials handling equipment.
Create sheet metal components using Autodesk Inventor.
Update and revise drawings throughout the design and manufacturing process.
Ensure drawings comply with Australian Standards, engineering specifications, and client requirements.
Maintain drawing registers, revision history, and project documentation.
Support continuous design improvements throughout project delivery.
Estimating & Costing
Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) for fabrication and procurement.
Complete Material Take-Offs (MTOs) from engineering drawings.
Estimate project costs including:
Raw materials
Fabricated components
Labour
Equipment and machinery
Installation
Subcontractors
Project overheads
Obtain and compare supplier quotations.
Assist with customer proposals and pricing submissions.
Maintain estimating spreadsheets and project cost records.
Review project variations and assist with cost adjustments.
Collaboration
Work closely with engineers, project managers, procurement teams, workshop personnel, and clients.
Interpret engineering calculations, technical specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
Deliver accurate drawings and estimates within project deadlines.

What We're Looking For
Required
Proven experience as a Mechanical Drafter, Mechanical Designer, CAD Draftsperson, Mechanical Estimator, or similar role.
Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor.
Experience producing:
General Arrangement (GA) Drawings
Sheet Metal Designs
Fabrication Drawings
Assembly Drawings
Manufacturing Drawings
Experience preparing Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, machining, and manufacturing processes.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
Reliable internet connection and home office suitable for remote work.

Preferred
Experience working with Australian engineering or manufacturing companies.

Mechanical Assemblies
Welding Symbols and Fabrication Standards
Familiarity with Australian Standards relating to mechanical design, guarding, safety requirements, and platform design.
Experience preparing shop drawings and fabrication documentation.
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Design, or a related field.
