About the Role:
We're looking for a proactive, customer-facing Business Development Consultant to drive growth for HiveRef (
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Generation & Prospecting
- Research and identify potential customers who fit HiveRef's target market: SMBs, accounting firms, recruitment agencies, facilities and building companies, and any lean team hiring without an in-house HR department.
- Build and maintain a steady pipeline of qualified leads using tools such as LinkedIn, business directories, industry associations, and referrals.
- Segment leads by industry, company size, and hiring volume to prioritize outreach.
Outreach & Sales
- Conduct outbound outreach via
- Deliver clear, confident pitches explaining how HiveRef saves hiring teams time and reduces risk, tailoring the message to each prospect's hiring pain points.
- Handle objections, answer product questions, and guide prospects toward starting a free trial (4 free reference checks, no card required) and converting to a paid plan.
- Follow up consistently until a lead converts or is disqualified.
Customer Onboarding & Support
- Act as the primary point of contact for new customers after signup, helping them set up their first reference check and understand key features.

- Identify upsell opportunities as customers' hiring volume increases (moving them to higher plans).
Tracking & Reporting
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all leads, outreach activity, conversations, and deal stages in a CRM or shared tracking system. We do not have a CRM in place yet, so you may help us select or set one up.
- Provide regular reports on pipeline status, conversion rates, outreach volume, and customer support activity.
- Flag recurring customer objections or product feedback to management to help refine sales messaging and the product roadmap.
Requirements:
- Confortable providing advice to leadership team on best practice
- Proven experience in business development, sales or telesales (SaaS or B2B experience strongly preferred).
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; confident and professional on the phone.
- Strong ability to use AI on a daily basis to assist with efficiencies.
- Comfortable with cold outreach and consultative selling.
- Organized and detail-oriented, with experience using CRM tools or spreadsheets to track pipeline activity.
- Customer-service mindset: patient, responsive, and able to explain product concepts in simple terms.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision, while hitting agreed targets.
- Prior experience in B2B SaaS sales is an advantage but not required.
Schedule:
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, aligned with Australian business hours. This is flexible and will change to an output-based role.
