I am looking for a creative 2D animator and motion designer to help create short animated illustration segments for a Christian teaching podcast and YouTube channel.
The videos will primarily feature me speaking and teaching, but throughout each episode I want hand-drawn, sketch-style animations that visually illustrate stories, biblical concepts, metaphors, illustrations, and teaching points.
The visual style I am looking for is rough, hand-drawn sketch animation—not polished corporate motion graphics or generic smooth cartoon animation. Think expressive pencil and ink illustrations that appear to be drawn onto the screen in real time as the teaching progresses. The artwork should feel raw, imperfect, textured, and intentional, like a moving sketchbook or illustrated teaching journal.
The animation may combine frame-by-frame hand-drawn animation with animated sketch reveals, handwritten text, camera movement, and motion design. Some scenes may be simple and minimal, while others may involve characters moving and acting out short visual sequences. The goal is not polished commercial cartoon animation, but expressive, story-driven animation that maintains a rough, hand-drawn sketch aesthetic.
Examples of work may include:
* Animated handwritten titles and words that appear to be drawn onto the screen
* Frame-by-frame hand-drawn character animation
* Biblical scenes and visual metaphors
* Rough pencil, ink, charcoal, or sketch-style animation
* Characters acting out short scenes and illustrations
* Short animated transitions between teaching sections
* Illustrations that reveal themselves progressively as I speak
* Expressive facial reactions and character movement
* Animating existing artwork and illustrations when provided
* Turning spoken stories, metaphors, and teaching points into visual animated sequences
The ideal candidate understands visual storytelling and can take a spoken idea, illustration, Bible story, metaphor, or script and turn it into a simple but powerful animated sequence that supports the teaching without distracting from it.
I am looking for someone who can understand the emotion and meaning behind an idea—not simply animate instructions. Creativity and the ability to visually interpret concepts are important for this role.
Experience with Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, Toon Boom, Adobe Animate, TVPaint, or similar software is helpful, but your portfolio, artistic ability, animation skills, and ability to understand the creative direction matter more to me than the specific software you use.
Please send examples of your animation and illustration work. I am especially interested in seeing hand-drawn animation, frame-by-frame animation, rough sketch animation, pencil or ink work, storyboards, animatics, or artistic 2D animation.
If selected, I will begin with a paid test project before moving into ongoing work.
This is a Christian teaching project. You do not have to be a Christian to apply, but you must be comfortable working with biblical stories, Scripture, and Christian teaching content. Christian applicants are especially welcome.
In the first line of your application, please include the word MOSES so I know you read the entire job description.
