Job Summary:
We are hiring a CAD Drafter (AutoDesk Inventor) to produce precise 3D solid models and 2D drawings of bent metal parts from supplied job cards. This role requires a strong grasp of bend geometry and sheet metal fabrication, plus the ability to nest order quantities and lay out loads for shipping. We are looking for a meticulous, technically skilled drafter who works comfortably to defined file and drawing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build accurate 3D solid models and 2D drawings of bent metal parts in AutoDesk Inventor from job cards
- Read job card specs including bend radius and angle, chord and arc length, mid-coordinate values, and end tangents
- Export each part as a STEP file and DWG, and create ISO drawings per part
- Nest full order quantities and produce a nested model and DWG for each order
- Create load layout drawings placing parts on an 8-foot-wide trailer at the required length
- Flag any load wider than 8 feet as over-width
- Check model accuracy against mid-coordinate inspection values
- Follow file-naming, drawing, and nesting standards set during onboarding
Mandatory Skills:
- Proven experience with AutoDesk Inventor Professional
- Strong command of bend geometry: radius, angle, chord, arc length, mid-coordinates, and tangents
- Experience producing 3D models and 2D production drawings of metal parts
- Ability to manage STEP, DWG, and ISO drawing files
- Experience with part nesting and load layout drawings
- Familiarity with sheet metal or structural fabrication geometry
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently
- Strong communication skills
Preferred Skills:
- Background in metal fabrication, manufacturing, or structural engineering
- Experience planning shipping or over-width load layouts
- Familiarity with inspection and dimensional verification workflows
- Ability to handle multiple orders and drawing sets at once
