ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a senior-level Odoo Systems & Process Consultant to help us audit, map and improve complex Odoo workflows across Inventory, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales, CRM, Helpdesk and eCommerce.
This is not a simple admin role. We need someone who can understand real operational processes, identify bottlenecks, challenge inefficient workflows, and design practical Odoo solutions that make day-to-day work easier for our team.
Our workflows include multi-stage manufacturing and subcontracting, product variants, raw material resupply to subcontractors, receiving coated and component products, final assembly BoMs, and ensuring Odoo remains aligned with a simple and intuitive Shopify customer ordering experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Map and document existing Odoo workflows across Sales, Inventory, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Subcontracting and Customer Support.
• Review complex MRP, BoM, subcontracting and inventory flows and recommend improved system architecture.
• Design streamlined workflows for raw material resupply, subcontractor/coater management, component receipt, final assembly production, labour BoMs and packaging BoMs.
• Simplify product setup using the appropriate combination of product variants, attributes, configuration templates, automated actions and custom development.
• Improve order flexibility so sales users can amend orders after processing without creating inventory, purchasing or manufacturing issues.
• Help align complex back-end processes with a simple and user-friendly Shopify eCommerce experience.
• Document recommended workflows clearly so our internal team can understand, maintain and develop them further.
• Where appropriate, implement or specify Odoo Studio changes, automated actions, server actions, custom fields, views, reporting filters and other user-focused improvements.
EXAMPLES OF ODOO PROCESSES WE NEED TO IMPROVE
• A cleaner product creation process for configurable products with repetitive variant configurations, reducing lengthy manual setup.
• A robust way to handle bespoke and non-returnable products on quotations and orders.
• Better visibility of customer communication preferences within CRM.
• Improved links between Helpdesk Tickets, CRM Opportunities and Sales Orders.
• Inventory alerts and location-based stock counting improvements.
• Enhanced change logs, margin visibility and Shopify-related sales fields.
OUR CURRENT ODOO ENVIRONMENT
We have already completed several successful Odoo customisations, including:
• Linking Helpdesk Tickets to Sales Orders.
• Creating Sales Orders directly from Helpdesk Tickets.
• Linking Helpdesk Tickets with CRM Opportunities.
We are now looking to move into more advanced process architecture around MRP, subcontracting, inventory management and eCommerce integration.
We are also preparing for a future upgrade from Odoo 17 to Odoo 20. This will require thorough review and testing to ensure any existing functionality that may break during the upgrade is identified, documented and resolved before deployment.
Previous upgrades have been disruptive to business operations, so a key objective of this role is to help us:
• Map existing processes and customisations.
• Identify potential upgrade risks.
• Ensure workflows continue working as expected after the upgrade.
• Document any process changes.
• Train users on new or modified workflows before any upgrade takes place.
ADVANCED TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
We operate Odoo Online and prefer standard Odoo functionality wherever possible. However, when a business requirement cannot be achieved using standard functionality, the successful candidate must be confident developing solutions using:
• Odoo Studio
• Automated Actions
• Server Actions
• Python
You should be able to assess a business problem and determine whether it should be solved using standard Odoo functionality, Studio customisation, automation, Python development, or a combination of these approaches.
PYTHON & CUSTOMISATION EXPERIENCE
This is not a purely functional consultant role.
You must be able to demonstrate real examples of Python-based Odoo customisations that you have implemented.
We do not mind whether the code was written entirely by you, created with AI assistance, adapted from existing examples, or developed using tools such as Microsoft Copilot. What matters is that you:
• Understand what the code does.
• Can explain the logic clearly.
• Can troubleshoot and maintain it.
• Can modify and improve it when required.
• Can deliver reliable, working solutions.
Please provide examples involving:
• Python-based workflow automation.
• Odoo Studio customisations.
• Automated Actions and Server Actions.
• Complex field calculations.
• Inventory, manufacturing, procurement or sales workflow improvements.
EFFICIENCY MATTERS
We value simplicity and maintainability.
The best solution is not always the one with the most code.
We expect candidates to:
• Challenge unnecessary complexity.
• Use standard Odoo functionality wherever possible.
• Use Odoo Studio before resorting to custom code where appropriate.
• Write concise, efficient and maintainable code when development is genuinely required.
• Avoid creating hundreds of lines of custom code to solve problems that could be addressed through configuration or standard workflows.
REQUIREMENTS
• Proven experience as an Odoo Business Analyst, Functional Consultant, Solutions Architect or Senior Odoo Developer.
• Expert understanding of Odoo Manufacturing (MRP), Inventory, Purchasing, Sales and Subcontracting workflows.
• Strong experience mapping complex operational processes into practical ERP workflows.
• Comfortable using Odoo Studio, Automated Actions, Server Actions, Custom Fields, Views and workflow automation.
• Able to explain complex systems clearly to non-technical users.
• Excellent written English and documentation skills.
• Able to work independently, ask the right questions and challenge assumptions when improvements can be made.
NICE TO HAVE
• Experience with Shopify or other eCommerce integrations.
• Experience with Odoo Online and Odoo 17.
• Experience supporting manufacturing, fabrication, procurement, construction supply, distribution or highly configurable product businesses.
• Knowledge of Python, XML and QWeb development.
HOW TO APPLY
Please include:
• A summary of your experience with Odoo MRP, Inventory, Purchasing and Subcontracting.
• Two or three examples of complex Odoo workflows you have mapped, redesigned or implemented.
• At least two examples of Python-based Odoo customisations, including:
- The business problem.
- Why standard Odoo functionality was insufficient.
- The solution implemented.
- Approximate amount of code required.
- The business outcome achieved.
• Your hourly rate in USD.
• Your availability per week.
• Confirmation that you are comfortable working on a pay-as-you-go / project-based basis.
APPLICATION QUESTION
Describe a situation where you deliberately chose a standard Odoo solution instead of writing custom Python code. Why was this the better business decision?
