The Firm

Simonsgroup Tax Advisory is a strategic tax planning firm in Washington, DC. Not tax preparation. Not seasonal filing. Our clients are business owners ($300K-$5M revenue), high-income tech professionals, and real estate investors. Engagement values range from $1,800 to $10,000+.

The Google Ads account runs Search campaigns in the DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia metro area. Monthly ad spend: approximately $2,000. The only conversion that matters: intake form submissions that result in booked advisory consultations.

---

Why This Role Exists

The account has been through three vendor relationships in eight months. Each produced the same pattern: generic reporting without actual data, keyword strategies that attracted tax preparation shoppers instead of advisory clients, and tracking configurations that inflated conversion counts while real lead quality degraded.

Two independent audits have been completed. A separate Phase 1 engagement will fix the structural and tracking issues those audits identified (GA4 misconfiguration, conversion tag duplication, broken Enhanced Conversions, campaign restructuring, landing page alignment). Phase 1 must be complete before this engagement begins.

This role picks up after the foundation is repaired. Your job: keep the data clean, keep the budget protected from waste, and steadily improve cost per qualified lead.

---

Weekly: Search Term and Negative Keyword Management (4-5 hours/month)

The most important recurring task. Corporate tax keywords cost $10-$25 per click. Without weekly review, Google's algorithms will match your ads to consumer tax prep queries, IRS self-service searches, competitor name lookups, and job seekers within days. This has been documented and measured in this account.

Every week:

- Pull the search terms report for the prior 7 days
- Review every query that generated a click
- Add negative keywords for competitor names, consumer queries ("free tax services," "file my taxes"), IRS self-service queries ("irs payment plan," "form 9465"), job seeker queries ("bookkeeping jobs remote"), and out-of-market locations
- All negatives as phrase match. Not exact match. Exact match negatives let variants through. This has been a recurring vendor failure on this account.
- Maintain a running log: date, keyword, match type, rationale
- Flag any emerging search pattern that suggests a keyword or ad group adjustment

Weekly means weekly. A competitor name that collects 3 clicks before it is blocked costs $30-$75.

---

Bi-weekly: Performance Monitoring and Bid Management (2-3 hours/month)

- Flag any keyword with $75+ spend and zero conversions over a rolling 30-day window
- Monitor geographic performance. DC and Maryland convert. Virginia locations have historically shown near-zero activity. Diagnose and recommend if that pattern continues.
- Monitor device performance. Mobile has consistently outperformed desktop on conversion rate in this account.
- Verify ad scheduling restricts spend to business hours. No serving between 10pm and 6am.
- Review auction insights monthly. Track competitive position against ---------- , H&R Block, and Intuit.

---

Bi-weekly: Reporting (2-3 hours/month)

Written report every two weeks. Data, not descriptions. Every report includes:

- Spend by campaign and ad group
- Impressions, clicks, CTR, CPC, conversions, cost per conversion by ad group
- Search impression share: total, lost to budget, lost to rank
- Top-of-page rate and absolute top-of-page rate
- Quality scores for top 10 keywords by spend (including Landing Page Experience, Ad Relevance, Expected CTR sub-scores)
- Auction insights: top 5 competitors by impression share
- Top 15 search terms by spend with clicks, cost, conversions
- Negative keywords added during the period (from the running log)
- Location performance by targeted area
- Device performance breakdown
- Conversion action health: verify tag is firing, confirm primary/secondary configuration, reconcile Google Ads conversions against Tally form submission count
- Actions taken since last report (specific changes, not descriptions of process)
- Recommendations for next period with rationale

Reports that describe what a metric means without providing the actual number will not be accepted. Three consecutive vendors delivered reports with section headers and metric definitions but no data. That is the standard this role replaces.

---

Monthly: Ad Copy Testing (1-2 hours/month)

- Maintain at least 3 responsive search ad variations per ad group
- Test headlines reflecting advisory positioning: S-Corp strategy, entity structuring, high-income tax planning, real estate investor tax, IRS resolution
- Pause underperformers based on CTR and conversion rate. Not ad strength scores.
- Ensure ad copy aligns with landing page content

---

Ongoing: Conversion Tracking Integrity

Phase 1 fixes the tracking. This role keeps it clean.

- Test the intake form conversion tag quarterly (submit a test form, confirm it registers in Google Ads)
- Monitor for double-counting anomalies (any keyword with a conversion rate above 100% gets investigated immediately)
- Verify conversion values remain correctly assigned ($200-$500 per lead type)
- Reconcile Google Ads click count against GA4 paid sessions monthly
- Reconcile reported conversions against Tally submission count bi-weekly

The account has a documented history of tracking failures that corrupted Smart Bidding. Ongoing verification is not optional.

---

Required Experience

Minimum 5 years managing Google Ads Search campaigns for professional services firms: law firms, accounting firms, financial advisory, tax advisory, consulting, or medical practices. You must have managed at least 3 accounts in this category over that period.

General experience with e-commerce, local trades (plumbing, HVAC, landscaping), or app install campaigns does not substitute. The keyword economics, conversion paths, and lead quality standards for a $5,000 advisory engagement are fundamentally different from a $200 service call.

Additional requirements:

- Demonstrated experience with form-based or consultation-based conversion tracking, not e-commerce transactions
- Proficient with impression share analysis, quality score diagnostics, auction insights, and search term management at the query level
- Understands how conversion action configuration (primary vs. secondary, count setting, attribution window, value assignment) affects Smart Bidding behavior
- Can diagnose geographic targeting issues (e.g., algorithm deprioritizing specific locations due to budget constraints)
- Clear, data-driven written reporting in English
- Works in the client's own Google Ads account via MCC access

Preferred:

- Experience managing campaigns in the US professional services market
- Familiarity with Tally, Calendly, or similar form/scheduling-based conversion tracking
- Experience with Maximize Conversions and Target CPA bidding transitions
- Google Ads Search certification

---

Account Access

The Google Ads account is owned by Simonsgroup. You receive manager-level access via MCC. Account ownership does not transfer. All campaigns, keywords, ads, conversion tracking, and work product remain in the Simonsgroup account. If the engagement ends, the account continues with no disruption.

---

Timezone

The firm operates on US Eastern time. Bi-weekly check-in calls: 8am-12pm ET (8pm-12am PHT). Async communication via email for everything else. Responsiveness within 24 hours on business days is expected.

How to Apply

Answer all four questions. Applications that skip any question or send a generic cover letter will not be reviewed.

1. Name 2-3 professional services firms (law, accounting, financial advisory, medical) where you managed Google Ads on a monthly retainer for at least 6 months. For each: monthly ad spend, qualified leads per month, cost per qualified lead, and the single most impactful change you made. Anonymize client names if needed.

2. You pull this week's search terms report and see 8 of the top 20 queries by spend are people searching for specific CPA names ("john smith cpa," "abc tax services"). They generated $110 in clicks and zero conversions. What do you do, what match type for the negatives, and why that match type?

3. Google Ads shows 4 conversions this period. The intake form platform shows 7 submissions. What are the possible explanations and what would you check first?

4. Your monthly rate for this scope and hours.

Applications that answer all four questions with specifics will be prioritized. The next step is a short paid test task (compensated at your rate) before any ongoing engagement begins.
